Last year, the league reportedly turned down an ESPN deal worth $1.4 billion over nine years. The Big East negotiations are expected to start at $2 billion

So far, all of the preliminary news seems good.
However, I'm gonna wait until all of the hands are shaked, papers are signed, and checks clear.
IMO for SDSU, I view this deal as keeping the department out of the red rather than launching us into some stratospheric level of newfound wealth.

But the way the department has been living hand-to-mouth for the past decade or five, finally getting this kind of financial stability is reason to celebrate. Knock on wood.

Wasn't Vegas laughing at us for leaving MWC and going to the BE? Hmmm. I guess they like their plan better. Idiots.

Was it not the former CBS guy Pilson who said the BE would 'not' get anywhere close to what the mother ship had originally offered? His tune sure has changed per his comments in the espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/62338/big-east-gets-serious-about-tv-efforts blog: "Neal Pilson, former president of CBS Sports, is optimistic about the Big East’s outlook. “If the Big East schools hang together, I believe they can secure a new TV deal equal to or better than the last offer from ESPN, because the media competition for their rights will be intense,” he said." Oh so many, many doubters...where are they now as it is not going to be either (a) equal to the current MWC deal; (b) no where more than $4MM; (c) $6MM if they are lucky as the conference has lost Pitt, WV & Syracuse. NO...it is going to be Daddy Warbucks kind of $$$$$'s with the new hire for commissioner. The Idaho Statesman article (http://voices.idahostatesman.com/2012/08/15/bmurphy/boise_state_all_set_join_big_west_president_says#storylink=cpy) by Brian Murphy had the following from Boise's President Bob Kustra: "The Big East hired Mike Aresco, a CBS Sports executive vice president, as its new commissioner Tuesday. Kustra was a member of the selection committee that chose Aresco. He said he was blown away by Aresco's resume and felt his television experience was key for a league that will negotiate a make-or-break TV deal this fall. "Certainly you want integrity and familiarity with intercollegiate athletics, but who are we kidding? We must have somebody with significant media experience. Somebody who knows where the bodies are buried. Somebody who knows how to negotiate. Somebody who knows how much those companies are really holding back when they say this is the last and final offer. And that’s exactly what we got," Kustra said. Bob Kustra nailed it on the head about what is most likely going to play out over the next few months as to the new BE TV contract. It is good to be an Aztec right now...sorry Robertas, et.al. Good luck with your next TV contract when it finally comes up for review/renewal as Tier rights to Aztec hoops have the potential to generate more income than the current MWC football TV contract.

And the roller coaster continues. Not going to get too excited either way until the deal is done. But the fact that Aresco left a big time postion and knows as well or better than anyone what the conferense is worth, tells you that something good is likely to happen.

Pilson didn't change his tune, he's always said we'd get a great deal. The low predictions have always come from unnamed sources. *insert link to thread titled "SDSU athletic dept. ends year with $x million surplus"* It was $300k. I call that staying out of the red. That surplus turns into a deficit with a 6% increase in tution costs that will likely happen after the election.

I agree with this, BE is merely a step up that keeps that athletic department afloat as appose to the MWC, a move to the B12 or P12 would change everything in a positive light when it comes to money and recruiting oppurtunities in pretty much every sport, which would have big academic benefits.

Clearly, if viewed only in terms of hoops and the move to the BW, it is not ideal for that team, however, as a whole it is the best move for SDSU to make at this time. Just accept it and move forward - I am sure that is what Fish is doing...

Not to be a debbie downer, but any speculated figures for the contract at this point is just that, speculation. Funny how we lambast the predictions that are on the low end, but seemingly embrace accept any lofty predictions. Again just try to keep a level head so that we can all hopefully be pleasantly surprised. Yeahhhh Big East Yeaaaaa Sterk!!!!
