The BE made a couple of great moves with the TV consultants and the new commish, in that order. Now I truly believe they'll create the all sports East and West divisions. They'll need to for live basketball, especially if they develop a BE network in the immediate future. I think this new commish is a visionary and will pull it off. Make no mistake, our days in the BW are definitely numbered. +1

Now I can hardly wait to see the final TV contract! This should be very interesting.

Too many variables. - Louisville, UConn and Cincy's dedication to staying. - How much time will it take to add western members (if any), and which ones. - Full members, or football only? - Can Boise really afford to ship their non football sports all over the country? - What about inviting East Carolina or even a Xavier/Butler? - At some point a conference will just grow too big. As much as you want to make the BW a one or two year pit stop, it will take a few years to see how this football-only business works out.

If the ACC starts to get the feeling that poaching BE schools is about to get harder because of expected new TV money, they may launch a preemptive strike and go after more BE members right away. Likewise, the BE may decide to sweeten the upcoming deal by making another pass at BYU, this time with a bit more optimism than they were able to show last year.

One of the big four could possibly make a run at a Big East team right now, but not the ACC. The new deal for the BE should be similar to what the ACC has and could well exceed them. If I was presented with the choice of joining the ACC or waiting a couple months to see what the new deal is, I would absolutely take what's behind door number two, Monty!

What a difference a day makes...lol
8/13 - AA - But the westward expansion has made the Big East the punch line of numerous jokes, not to mention immediately making its conference name an anachronism. Its perception problem is worse than ever, and that is a major issue. In college football, tradition is power. There are no traditional teams left in the Big East. There is no semblance of normalcy, either.
8/14 - AA - The Big East proved itself forward-thinking and visionary on Monday when it hired CBS executive Mike Aresco as its new commissioner. This is a bold move, made to ensure this conference not only survives into the future -- but thrives into the future.

As much as you want to make the BW a one or two year pit stop, it will take a few years to see how this football-only business works out. Assuming you can get BYU you could have two seven team football only conferences. West - BSU, BYU, Houston, Louisville, Memphis, SDSU, SMU East- Cincinatti, Navy, Rutgers, Temple, UCONN, UCF, USF Assuming Navy stays as football only you could have four pods of five teams for Basketball and most other sports. West- BSU, BYU, Houston, SDSU and SMU North Central - DePaul, Marquette, Notre Dame, Louisville and Memphis South Eastern(ish) - Cincinatti, Rutgers, Temple, UCF and USF North East - UCONN, Georgetown, Providence, Seton Hall and St. Johns You would have home and home (8) games against your pod and 12 games, 4 of 5 teams in each of the other pods with six at home and on the road. 20 conference games, may be too many so 3 of 5 from other pods or something... I think the travel would be ok and the format would be brilliant for NBC to have games across time zones, etc. There are a lot of teams moving around so I may have missed one...

How will this effect football ticket sales in SD?
See this can have even a bigger effect on SDSU if people will respect SDSU in there own home town.
We are going to get National Publicity.
People will see the Nation will respect SDSU more then they realize.
The timing could not be better for SDSU. If Hoke had failed we might not be in the Big East.
Being in the Big East will make us known to Basketball recruits as well.
If we have money for out of State tuition other sports will get better recruits as well.
Beth was not happy with the BW, but she signed up to remain as the womans Basketball coach.
She got a pay raise and that did not come from woman's basketball ticket sales that is not how she wanted, because Beth has received outside money a couple of years to promote her program and she is very good at that, but SD has not support her like other cities support other good woman's basketball teams.
We are lucky to have her and I will miss seeing the woman's games on TV this year as a out of towner.
I was at a football luncheon when she was introduced and we all could not believe how she could talk.
