I hope he's more than just a college basketball guy...

I can't thnk of a better pick given the imminent tv deal that the BEast has to negotiate. Aresco knows the numbers both from a basketball and football perspective. I'll go out on a limb and say Aresco pulls in $12.0M per football member.

I've only read glowing remarks on him so far, so it seems like a coup of a hire.

I've only read glowing remarks on him so far, so it seems like a coup of a hire. From Dennis Dodd of CBS: www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/dennis-dodd/19794041/big-east-hits-a-home-run-with-cbs-aresco" You get what you pay for – and the Big East got a lot. In hiring CBS Sports programming vice president Mike Aresco, the conference not only reworked the model, it created a new one. A major network exec leaving to become a commissioner? It hasn't happened. It doesn't happen.
Until Tuesday. The slap-hitter known as the Big East hit the shot heard around college athletics. At least as far as commissioners go. Let's put this in perspective. A top executive of perhaps the most powerful over-the-air sports operation in North America just left for a conference on life support."

The conference clearly isn't anymore and likely never was on life support. A tv consultant that just built major fame by getting a huge deal for the pac doesn't risk that and this guy doesn't throw away a 25 year career unless the big east is getting paid. We're getting paid fools, yo.

Looks like he worked at ESPN before CBS. Interesting.

Sounds like a perfect hire. Let's see what he can do over the next few months.
What a difference this should be from Thompson.

Reading through the comments on the ESPN link is crazy. The fans are all over the place on the subject. I personally love all the conversation....good or bad....as long as you are talked about! San Diego State has a huge opportunity next year......beyond huge if the Aztecs have any aspirations of becoming a national player in football. Our first year in the Big East is a chance to win so many new fans (and get our old alumni on the east coast back in the mix) and make the lead from that school out west to a bonafide contender. Kansas State did it in the 1990s, they went from a laughing stock, to a nationally respected program, I can see the same thing happening for SDSU, and it doesn't hurt that Hoops will be all over the national map this year and years to follow. I was a skeptic on the move, but now really liking the way it is going as I think the $$ from TV will be higher than previously thought. The one sticking point is the fact that a high percentage of the new BE schools are from MWC and CUSA. Can the TV folks overlook that?

My biggest fear on the tv negotiations has been the thought of bringing plastic forks to a gun fight. What has transpired over the past 72 hours in regards to what starts on September 1...makes the words of the great New York Jets philosopher, Bart Scott, keep ringing in my ears: "Can't Wait!"

The BE made a couple of great moves with the TV consultants and the new commish, in that order. Now I truly believe they'll create the all sports East and West divisions. They'll need to for live basketball, especially if they develop a BE network in the immediate future. I think this new commish is a visionary and will pull it off. Make no mistake, our days in the BW are definitely numbered.

Looks like he worked at ESPN before CBS. Interesting. Before CBS Sports, Aresco worked at ESPN, where he was responsible for overseeing the acquisition, scheduling and development of long-term strategies for all of ESPN and ESPN2 college sports properties. On paper this guy looks like a great hire. Man I'm so glad this didn't turn out like a lot of SDSU's coaching hire - throw out a bunch of big names, then hire a JC coach. We just might make it after all.

it is a great pick. the next 4 months determine ours and the rest of the big east''s future Who do you think negotiated with the SEC to get their nice paycheck? Yeah, he's the man and will be a great Commissioner for the BE. He is perfect for the job, and the BE will be in great shape with Aresco leading. Just watch.

Please someone help me as I think my chemotherapy drugs have clouded my brain. Is San Diego State University really about to join a legitimate football conference with the money and financial clout to make us a national football power?
I could not be any more excited about the future of Aztec sports. Now is the time for all true Aztec fans to jump on board and support your school!!! And to think some actually wanted to stay in the Mountain West.
