With all of the discussion going on about not punting on fourth down I am reminded of the 'quick kick' which I haven't seen in decades. Would it have a place in modern college football? In the 50s NAU had a coach named Max Spillbury who used it very successfully. Of course his QB was also his punter.

The San Diego Surge (women's football team) did it a few times during their championship game a couple weeks ago but I doubt we'll see it at the pro or collegiate level any time soon.

Randall Cunningham punted a quick kick almost the whole distance of the field due to a friendly roll in the 90s.

I stand corrected. I thought that was just a normal punt play with Tom Brady kicking instead of their regular punter.
