I have come to the independent conclusion that the Washington Nationals will announce in September that Stras' medical team determined he is fully healed and have no problem with him pitching. That will provide an immediate boost to the team's morale and power them through October.
No inside knowledge or local DC rumor, just a hunch. Makes complete sense though.

I know its a touchy situation, my buddy in Arlington and I were discussing it yesterday on the phone. But, you GOTTA play for the ring.

Lots of former Nats and baseball people are now getting vocal here and some are passing along clubhouse views that the team is angered by the unilateral, poorly explained decision by Rizzo. The story isn't over. Sent from my DROID RAZR using proboards

Let him pinch hit. He's batting .343.

This is one instance where it appears that the team is putting the long term health of a player as priority. If they pitched him in the stretch, blows out his arm and never pitches again will it really be worth it? Plus, look at that roster ands its inconceivabnle that that is World Series caliber. A couple pieces with the pitching staff in place, they will be serious contenders next year. Players that come back from major surgeries usually take one whole season before the are back to top form. No need to push him. I would want to see him have a long career and not one like Mark Prior.

According to Bill Ladson on Twitter Strasburg will be shut down in 5 starts and will not participate in the playoffs. GM Mike Rizzo is a joke!

They have by-and-far the best record in baseball built on attitude, pitching, and timely hitting. Stras is a big part of that. He is already at top form and has been babied for the most part. Either way they go, it's a roll of the dice.

The Nationals know what they are doing, so they will not stupidly risk Strasburg's future for 4-5 extra starts, even if they come in the playoffs.

Sent from my DROID RAZR using proboards I would agree with you IF they hadn't pushed the "we're protecting Stephen and his future" all season long. They painted themselves into a corner. It would now look like they are willing to jeopardize someone's health/career. It sucks for his teammates and their fans this season. Anyone who thinks they are not a potential World Series team this season and the near future...hasn't watched many of their games. They are legit. Outstanding young arms and position players. They will also get some good free agents this season. Their young pitching staff will look great in Dodger Blue in a few seasons. ;D ;D ;D

It is a tough decision. I wonder if they have considered placing him on the DL with a phantom injury. He could come back in time to get ready for the playoffs to begin.
