It goes without saying that the AC is great and we should all be giving as much as we can at all times, but I've been thinking lately it might be good for the AC to set a yearly "micro" goals to go along with its overall macro goal of fund raising for athletics.
Things like iPads for the football/basketball programs so we can digitize the playbooks, training tables for both programs, etc...
I think giving a solid target like these things that have measurable benefits on the field/court to the fence sitting alumni might be enough to get them to jump in.
Just kind of brainstorming but I'd like to get some input from the lunatic fringe that we are.

What if it was something along the lines of a wedding registry?
I know idiots like me would love to go bragging to their friends about how the players are sitting on "my" training table or studying "my" playbook that "I" bought for one of them (to use your examples).
I think your premise would squeeze a little more juice if you were going to give $x and there was an item for another $100 beyond what you initially planned, I think people would be likely to give that little bit more ... and all those "little bits" would add up to a large sum.

I like the idea. It's like at church, when you have your normal tithing, but then there are more focused causes that you can choose to back and actually see those goals and projects come to fruition.

SMU tried this kind of targeted giving. It resulted in the death penalty.

I'm not talking about buying cars and such, but iPads are definitely a perk that will be used for more than playbooks by the kids but the NCAA has ok'd the school providing iPads under the guise of "digitizing" playbooks. It's bad enough we're going against teams that flat out break the rules we might as well hit the limits on what we CAN do legally.

It goes without saying that the AC is great and we should all be giving as much as we can at all times as long as no one is drawing a salary for soliciting donations.Your original post was almost flawless. I had no choice, however, but to amend its first sentence. I'm ok with guys like Dave L taking a "fair" salary to compensate for their time, especially if they're organizing efforts like these. It's a ton of work.

Paid solicitors are a great addition if they don't mine the same folks as our normal reps do. If put on the task of getting donors that aren't accessible or in the usual pool, that's all good. I think a start would be follow up efforts to out-of-state alums. Sent from my DROID RAZR using proboards

The Aztec Club's sole purpose is raising scholarship money and though this was a record year for that...more than half the money still has to come from other sources. I won't get political...but I see the cost of scholarships continuing to do nothing but rise. The best thing you can do for our scholar athletes is give to the Aztec Club. I would love for the day to hurry up and get here...that we are raising more than needed every year. Then we could start doing...? People who earn salaries show up on www.GoAztecs.com under "staff". People like me are volunteers. Anyone here is welcome to contact me...I'm happy to help any way I can. Also...congrats to all of our first time BB/FB season ticket and Aztec Club people. We need all of you...and your friends.

I don't know of he does, but he should. Guy puts in way to much time doing what he does. I agree. My posting on here gives a great illusion of that. My wife's favorite saying about me is, "you don't do sh*t...but you get sh*t done." I can't argue with that. There are plenty of volunteers that work as hard and much much more. We could always use more.
