I finally executed last weekend what many here have already done --fired TWC. The final straw was when I insisted they give me the breakdown of cable/internet/phone and was surprised I was paying for two cable tiers I never ordered. When I asked to drop them I was told I could, but because of bundling I would be charged more for less channels!!! "WTF," ol' AF1 said. "That's just the way it is," ol' TWC said. So, last friday we made the move to DirecTV (Dave L told me to years ago) and after a learning curve I am just about confortable with the DVR portion, which is definitely more involved in getting used to. But, here's the kicker. When I asked TWC about the Pac -12 the previous week, I was told they planned to carry it when launched, BUT, it would be on a new 1000+ channel not on the Sports Tier. When I asked the customer service person if that was going to cost me additional he was not positive but said he thought so. So, beware TWC captives if you plan to watch the UW game at your casa in Sept. 1. I think they want you to upgrade. Finally, when I got to TWC on Ware Ct. in Miramar area last satuday, there was a line of people with their boxes in hand doing the same thing I was. We all had something of "pity party" standing in line. Regards to all, A new dish on the roof of AF1

You are 100% correct, and doubtful anyone else will pick up the TW owned Lakers channel down here...the mess continues The TW owned lakers channel isn't a TW only channel. It is going to be broadcast among all providers, but will probably be on the sports package. DirecTV is far and away the best tv provider. Biggest selection of basic sports, most HD channels, and least amount of hassle I have experienced by FAR. If you haven't picked it up yet and are still holding onto Uverse Cox or TW you are seriously missing out.

it's not that it won't be picked up because it's TW owned, it's because of what they are asking the providers and thus their customers to pay for it. Also, from what I am hearing TW is saying this net can't be on a sports tier, it must be part of a "regular" package. It's tough to make back 3 billion dollars in 20 years. We will see, this net is a tough sell as non LA markets already get 15-20 Lakers games anyway via ESPN and Turner. I think if they lt it go on a sports tier it would be pretty good chances you see it on all providers, if TW maintains it must be on the basic tier I would not get my hopes up non-TW folks. Fingers crossed...

I am so sick of cable companies and tiers, and paying for a bunch of channels that don't show sports, world war II or Huell Howser.

To hell with the Lakers. I'm a Spurs fan now (only Aztec in the NBA).

At some point in the future, I'm hoping that TV providers (Cox, DirectTV, TWC, etc) get fed up with the content providers (Viacom, Disney, etc) constantly raising rates, so they start making all programming "a la carte", so each subscriber can decide if paying $5/month for ESPN is worth it. That being said, I fully recognize that SDSU will likely benefit from this situation in the next couple of months with the Big East package. Some content provider (NBC, Disney, Fox, ) is going to over-pay for the Big East TV rights, and use the live-sports leverage against the service providers to earn their money back. (In an a la carte world, the new Big East would not generate nearly the revenue that it is going to...)

I dumped TW (after 3 letters and whimpy responses) and got Direct. I have not looked back- value is vastly better as is the price.

Pitiful attempt to save money but here we go...if anyone is looking to switch from whatever you have to DirecTV may I be considered as your reference (if you don't already have one). We will both save $100 ($10 off our bill for the next 10 months). Just PM me if you are interested. Sorry all, just trying to save a few bucks.

Umm, per Sterk TW bought the rights to the Aztec games this year from CBS. hmmm....so are you saying the Direct TV people are screwed, or is there the possibility of catching the Aztecs on Direct TV? I still have TWC and for a variety of reasons have no plans to switch.

Here's a little tip about DirecTV. For whatever the reason, their installation people are all-over-the-map when it comes to their installation policies. I think it's because they are all independent contractors.
The first guy that came to my house said that the neighbors tree was in the way so he would need to get a special part ordered so that the signal could get over the tree. This was also going to have to include moving the meter to the other side of the house.
So once that part came in, they sent a different guy to do the installation. He said that he couldn't do the installation using the existing wiring in the house since it was Time Warner's. I told him the house was pre-wired for cable before I even ordered Time Warner, he wouldn't do the work.
I called DirecTV and they immediately sent out a third guy. He said that the tree in question wasn't even an issue and that the existing wiring wasn't a problem either. He had me hooked-up within two hours and I've been happy ever since.

Yes, a totally true statement. When I moved here (condo complex) Cox was already wired in here and I used them for 2 years or so. I finally looked at DTV's deals and Cox couldn't come close to them so I switched. The installation guy came here and just had to unplug Cox outside somewhere and hook DTV in there. Inside he needed to install a splitter since I kept Cox HS Internet. No problem. Up and running in no time. I never had to give them a credit card for the two year contract like the guy in the UT claimed this morning. I think that stuff disappeared years ago. In any case I saved beaucoup bucks over Cox the last year and a half but will finally get near the Cox rates again in January when my contract is up. It's been a great ride. I don't think DTV will be adding the PAC-12 networks though since the CEO says he won't take Scott's all-or-nothing approach to make DTV show all 7 networks. No problem, I'll just hit the sports books cause someone will have it on there. The others that TW will have just won't be shown to non-TW areas this year. I'm sure glad I don't have all you guy's problems with Tom Werner, er Time Warner. And I even get to see my Padres way up here. Next year we will have a new deal with the BE and won't have to deal with Hair's stupid exploits. Can't get here soon enough for me.

Has anyone seen evidence yet of what channel the Pac-12 network will be on?
