Not bad, short and not too expensive. Certainly trade friendly if they decide to trade him in the future. Letting Bell go and signing Street has turned out to be a great move (I wasn't really a big Bell fan to begin with)

I like this move. Nice to have a reliable closer, on a reasonable contract.

Hard to argue with 17 for 17 and an ERA under 1. Meanwhile, Heath Bell is imploding in Miami.

First time padres have had a closer in his 20s signed to a contract that extended a few years since 1998.
Not that that fact actually has any importance.

I was very happy when the Padres got Street and let Bell go. It was a great move as is this signing. What I wrote at the time. We got Street, a first round pick, and second round draft pick for an expensive Bell and a PTBNL. I think we made out quite well. Street is a very good closer. I wouldn't be surprised if he had less blown saves than Bell this coming year. Remember he has been pitching at Coors and Bell has been pitching at Petco Park. On the road Street had a much better ERA than Bell.
2011 Street on the road.
ERA 2.15 Saves 18 Blown Saves 2 Save % 90% (higher than Trevors career average)

The PTNL in the trade was Nick Schmidt. For the Padres at "A+" he had a 4.35 ERA. This year in "AA" he had 12 starts and a 3.29 ERA. He was recently promoted to "AAA". In 5 starts he has a 7.96 ERA. He will turn 27 in October.
