I think those are some great ideas. Hopefully whoever comes in has the balls to think like this, and I especially agree regarding ESPN. With the amount of money ESPN has doled out to all the other conferences, I can't help but feel like its a bubble waiting to pop...like a interest only home loan, promising future profits to justify the insane money being thrown around. I love the Fox and NBC options, as at least there is room to grow fiscally and fiscally grow in a responsible manner. $8 million real dollars sounds a lot better than escalated $20 million dollar deals,

Such as it is, but the MW has a cohesive product. The challenge of the BE is to re-brand their new product as it reaches across an incredibly broad landscape. It would not be good if SDSU non-conference games draw more local interest than conference games. |

It would not be good if SDSU non-conference games draw more local interest than conference games. I don't know about cohesive as many teams have jumped ship. Familiar, perhaps. Still, it is becoming a 2nd Division level conference and will lose perhaps one more team in the next year or so. I think what they are looking at in the BE is keeping it relevant as the music comes to a stop. I also think selling something like a Cincinatti, Lousiville, USF Bulls and Rutgers are very sellable locally and nationally, moreso than Wyoming, UNLV or UNM. It ain't perfect but what we have is better for our future in the fiscally constrained future. |

This board was so caught up with ESPN while it was killing the Big East and the Mountain. Look how it helped BYU!
CBS should not have let the Mountain fall apart and then have to may more to get SDSU and Boise.
They should have locked the Mountain up. Now they will pay more.
This guy is right. It is all about promotion.
If the network promotes SD that will do more to fill rooms the the Poinsettia Bowl.
SD would owe us this game.

Fans would get more than just a game. I think this would be a smart way to go to get some viewers that otherwise wouldn't be interested in Big East football. Showing locker room chatter, pregame speeches, pre game banter, and in game conversations would be different and could become popular. |

Pitino suggested Jay Bilas for commissioner. I alluded to that the other day and somebody said I was nutz. What this columnist suggests is consistent with what Bilas would bring. Unlike the current interim doofus, Bilas would be a well spoken and OUTspoken face of a conference which we're all saying desperately needs that. When asked what he thought of Pitino's comment, Bilas said he hadn't thought about it but the concept sounded interesting. Instead of another middle-aged bore, the conference presidents should hire the guy already.

Bilas already said no (in a roundabout way) on Twitter. If so, I was unaware of that. Thanks for the info. I'd still favor a young outspoken guy like that. Larry Scott has been an immense breath of fresh air for the stodgy Pac and that's the kind of guy the BE needs. |

Not sure I agree with the leaving ESPN since that is what did in the MWC. Also, it sounds like BYU cut a deal with ESPN. The western conference of the BE needs BYU so that would have a better chance at happening if the BE goes with ESPN.

However, the writing is on the wall that the BE will go with NBC. And the situation will be different from the MWC in at least one sense. CBS Sports desperately needs the SEC and according to Tim Brando, the SEC told CBS in no uncertain terms that not only couldn't CBS broadcast any MWC games on its tier 1 network which was to be reserved for the SEC, CBS wasn't to plug its tier 2 programming on the tier 1 network. Not only shouldn't there be any such restriction with NBC, word is NBC wants the BE in order to broadcast the best BE game of the day as a lead in to ND football. |
