Assuming the player is at least average in the other areas, which attribute would you consider the most important? Why?

Motor/Effort/Competitiveness
It enables you to get the most out of the skills you have while also leading to improvement over time.
IMO, most fans idea of what constitutes basketball IQ is shaky at best.

It depends on his position. I could care less if a PG could rebound if he can't dribble.

This is weird though, because rebounding kind of requires a high motor doesn't it? I guess if you separate the effort in getting rebounds from the skills involved in rebounding(timing, creating levergage, etc) |

Also, give me defense over most of em aside from effort I suppose. defense and rebounding kind of goes hand in hand with motor. Unless you have incredible length that allows you to block shots and grab rebounds others can't get to. For example, Hasheem Thabeet in College. Obviously that doesn't always transfer to the next level. |

There are plenty of players with high motors that are bad defenders (Kevin Love comes to mind.) |

If everything else is the same then the one that is most competitive and willing to put in the extra work to get better will be better.

If a player has a high effort and still is only average in all other areas, than that player is a well below average player who barely gets by from having above average effort. Any other answer means the player can step up his effort in an important game and be better in all areas. But if they are at maximum effort already, you have what you have - no better than an average player. Trick question and most fell for it. |

To what extreme? If we have an all-around average player who can only excel in one of these I would choose shooting--at least for college ball. I mean, just look at Jimmer's success in college and what can he do besides shoot?
NBA is a different story.

There are no trick questions here...it's just another rouse for BBA to tell us all how Jamaal is the best at everything on this list. And if he's statistically not the best, BBA will tell us how his potential and his motor are more important than stats. You can't win so don't try.
