His parents can afford it. I think having to pay for something he can get for free is more in the ballpark. He can play three different positions and would be an asset to the program. Leaders are St. Mary's, Stanford and Colorado.

"It was based on financial reasons," Allen said. "My family just couldn't do it." Hiphop apparently knows the kid and family personally, so it just might be o.k. to accept his insight as another perspective. Whatever spin/rationale they put on it for the public, is the spin/rationale that they put on it.

"It was based on financial reasons," Allen said. "My family just couldn't do it." To clarify, they thought the school would cover more of his expenses than they offered. It's a little more complicated than tha, but suffice it to say the kid wants to ball and not worry about scraping pennies together to play at Harvard. He's good, some say better than Orlando Johnson at the same stage--they are from the same H.S. and Johnson may start for the Pacers this year as a rookie.

I would do soul-shreddingly awful things to afford Harvard or Yale's tuition. Annual tuition: Harvard: $38,000 Yale: $42,000 USC: $43,000 The biggest joke? USD tuition: $39,000 I hate USD as much an anyone, but Harvard and Yale don't have 75 degree weather and a campus 5 minutes from mission beach.

"Better than Orlando Johnson at the same stage?" I would take that to mean Allen is probably either a better 1 on 1 defender or has more foot speed. I thought those two things were OJ's biggest weaknesses heading into his senior year at UCSB. He led Loyola Marymount in scoring his freshman year before leaving. So if this Noah Allen is said to be more developed than OJ at the same stage, then look out!

Fair enough, I personally think St Mary's would be a great fit for him. He's a terrific player that I wouldn't be surprised to see drafted down the road. On Johnson I don't see anyway he is starting they are going to start Hill, George,Granger, West, and Hibbert like in the playoffs, George is going to be a star.

Anyone challenging a kids decision or thought process for considering opportunities at schools with academic reputations such as Harvard or Stanford need to have their heads examined.
He wanted to go, changed his mind due to personal reasons and is now open again. Best of luck to this young man!
Oh, and GO STATE!

harvard is expensive but it's also has one of the largest endowments in the country.
if you get into harvard it is likely that it's going to be greatly subsidized.

Interesting that he went to a private all-boys catholic high school for four years. I'm sure that wasn't free.
But alas, it's not Harvard.
