Interesting He is nowhere near what he was but new scenery could restart the juices.

Good for Mariners. They did the right thing to help him get a ring.

Good for Mariners. They did the right thing to help him get a ring. The Mariners don't have to either be stupid or heartless. That was their choices in either resigning or not resigning Ichiro. Ichiro's value has always been mostly BA. He didn't walk much and had little power. Once his batting average fell, his offensive value plummeted. Even though he is batting an OK, .261, his OBP is only .288. That means a lot of outs for a corner OF who doesn't have power to offset it. I have to wonder if the Yankees feel he still has something left that he hasn't been showing. In 420 PA he has 17 walks and 4 of those were intentional.

He's not anywhere close to what he once was. Not sure if this will help NYY replace Gardner or not, but maybe the change of scenery, better lineup, and more hitter friendly home park will rejuvenate him.
He was so damn good in his prime. A hit machine with a terrific glove and arm.

In 251 AB with no one on base Ichiro walked 4 times. In 114 AB leading off an inning Ichiro walked 1 time. In 074 AB with Only a runner at 1B Ichiro walked 3 times. In 081 AB with RISP Ichiro walked 10 times. In 034 AB with RISP and 2 outs Ichiro walked 7 times. Compare that to Chase Headley who already this season has 31 walks with no one on base. A lot of Ichiro's offensive value is an illusion.
