Justin Upton of the DBacks and Chase Headley of the Padres may both get traded. Which one is a better offensive player? Most people who know baseball would jump at the chance to pick Upton in that comparison. But both have one year left before free agency and both players hitting is effected by the ball parks in which they play.
2009-2012 road stats Over 1,000 PA for each. .265 BA Justin Upton .301 BA Chase Headley
.340 OBP Justin Upton .371 OBP Chase Headley
.4475 SLG Justin Upton .4479 SLG Chase Headley
.787 SLG Justin Upton .819 SLG Chase Headley Age may be an issue as far as improvement. Upton should improve more since he will be 25/26 next season while Headley will be 28/29. But Headley at 27/28 is having his best year while Upton at 25/26 is having his worst. Of course one being a #3B and the other a RF will come into play in any actual trade. I am talking more about their perceived value as hitters. The players will also bring their confidence which may take a hit for Upton leaving a big hitters park and may rise for Headley leaving Petco Park.
