Damn, not to bad Bill. Hell of a lot better than how they all started the season! I updated the first post. San Antonio now has a 10 game winning streak. Lake Elsinore had a no hitter through 8 innings on Tuesday night. The manager had a choice of using their closer who is unhittable to save the no-hitter, with a 10-0 lead or using a lesser pitcher. He chose the latter who gave up a double. Keyvius Sampson is one of the Padres top pitching prospects. He dominated low "A" last year (12-3 2.90 ERA in 24 starts). The Padres skipped him by high "A" and moved him straight to "AA". He has struggled (16 starts 5.45 ERA). But in his last 3 starts he is looking better (2.40 ERA). On Tuesday night he went 6 innings giving up one hit (sinlge) and no runs. It will be interesting to watch him the rest of the year. He turned 21 earlier this year.

Fort Wayne and Lake Elsinore won again last night.
At Fort Wayne Adys Portillo Pitched 5 innings giving up 1 hit and no ER. He is a classic example of age being a major factor in development. In 2011 he had a 7.11 ERA in 20 starts at Fort Wayne as a 19 year old. This year as a 20 year old (still young for low "A") he has a 1.65 ERA in 16 starts. He was rated the Padres #18 prospect after last year and should move up that list.
At Lake Elsinore Kevin Quackenbush got his 16th save. Last year he spit time between Fort Wayne and Eugene with a combined 0.64 ERA. The year before at South Florida he had a 0.80 ERA. This year he has a 0.72 ERA at The Lake. It's nice when a pitchers ERA begins with "0". His numbers are impressive.
37.2 innings 3 ER 26 hits 16 walks 42 Ks
And you gotta love the name - Quackenbush.

Padres' patience with Portillo is now paying off "Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if in a year he was banging on the door of the big leagues."

Playoff chances of the Padres minors.
Tucson - no chance in hell. San Antonio - 4 games behind. Lake Elsinore - 2 games ahead. Fort Wayne - 4 games ahead. Eugene - 1 game behind.
2 of the 5 would make the playoffs if they happened today. One is 1 game behind. San Antonio would need a big push to close the 4 game gap. 6 of their last 10 games is against the team ahead of them. They have games through September 3.
Padres have 3 minor league championships in the last 2 years. It would be nice to add another this year.
