On April 24 Alonso was hitting .196. Some were saying we gave up on Rizzo too soon and lamented the choice of Alonso. Since April 24 (one full month) Alonso has been ripping. He raised his overall average to .305. Alonso (April 24 - May 24).362 BA .439 SLG .511 SLG .950 OPS .418 wOBA (Very, very Good) The numbers above really strike me as similar to another Padre who is coaching the Aztecs right now. But Gwynn would do that over an entire year. Keep your fingers crossed. Alonso 4/24- .362 .439. 511 Gwynn 1987 .370 .447 .511 Alonso is 11th in baseball in percentage of Line Drives on Ball in PlaywOBA is quite high because of the high number of doubles. 11 doubles in a month is great and is equivalent in value to 7 Home Runs according to wOBA which statistically assigns values to hits based upon value derived by statistical analysis. A double, in wOBA, is worth 63.6% of a HR.
Alonso plays great defense. I say that by the eyeball test of watching him over the course of the year.

The trade of Latos is looking better and better. We gave up Latos: 9 starts 51.2 innings 4.35 ERA We got Volquez: 10 starts 59.1 Innings 3.49 ERA We got Alonzo: .305 batting average and good defense at 1st. We got Yasmani Grandal 23 year old catcher who is hitting .319 .426 .500 at "AAA". We got Brad Boxberger a 23 year old relief pitcher with a 3.71 at "AAA". Player control (years)4 Latos 2 Volquez 6 Alonzo 6 Grandel 6 Boxgerger

Must be that Petco curse you have been talking about Good to see Alonso doing what you should be doing at Petco as well as on the road. As I stated in the other thread, players need to hit the ball in the gaps instead of trying to hit home runs. Doubles and triples will score runs. Again, TG would have lit that place up!!!

As I posted in my OP, Alonso is 11th in baseball in Line Drive percentage. That is the key to hitting well in Petco Park. But it is easier said than done.

Since my OP Alonso has hit 2 singles in 25 AB with only one walk. I should have left well enough alone.
