Padres beat the Brewers to take their first series of the year. Hopefully a sign of things to come. Stauffer and Quentin coming back from injury could help. But they have to turn around the defense like they did last year. April early May 2011 Padres had very bad defense but turned it around to play fairly well in that area the rest of the year. They need this year to be the same, if they hope to allow AztecTom to win his over/under bet.

I just want a shortstop that can field. whatever happened to the days when it was ok for your middle infielders to hit 240 and give you great fielding. thats all I want.

Defense is very important. Not just shortstop but in all positions. Half of our "games behind" is due to having bad defense. In 2010 the Padres had great defense. They were the #1 team in MLB in turning batted balls into outs. That was not a small part of their winning that year.
