You may know about the 2007 injury to Scott Eveland, a Mission Hills FB player. The boy had complained to a number of Mission Hills staff that he had headaches and did not feel that he should go into the game. The HC, Chris Hauser, told the trainer that he, Hauser, would decide who would play and who would not. Now Eveland is severely handicapped and will need care for the rest of his life. The San Marcos district has just coughed up a very large settlement that will go to the family. Question: How is it possible that Hauser is still the Mission Hills head coach? www.10news.com/news/30646652/detail.htmlAzWm

Very sad story indeed. Hauser should not have the job anymore.

I've always had a big issue with Hauser's character ever since he left Vista.
How do you leave your own high school that has one of the best championship traditions in the country for a brand new school that hasn't ever suited up a team? He just up and walked without warning and then, amazingly, two of Vista's better players that he coached appeared at Mission Hills. That always seemed sketchy at best.
Vista ended up just fine with one of the best coaches in the county in Dan Williams, but Hauser IS a good coach. I just have questions about his character and judgment.

I can't believe this would happen in 2007 with all the concern for safety.
I remember as a kid playing Pop Warner in the 80s, coaches deprived us of water because it was "bad' for conditioning." So I faked the runs a lot to sneak a sip of that sweet H20. :-) Back then, coaches didn't know jack and it was expected. Not in this age. That coach should never be allowed to be in that role again.

Same way back in the 70s; oh how times have changed. Our players are constantly hydrating now. And if you get your bell rung, you are coming out of the game until our Doc says he can go back in, which doesn't happen too often.

Yes. Times have changed. And I am glad. Not many of you on this board have a son playing HS football-but I do. And he had a concussion 3 weeks ago. I can't tell you how comforting it is to know that my boy plays for a head coach and trainer at Poway High who puts his wellbeing ahead of everything else. He was not allowed to play until he was completely symptom free for 7 days. Scott's life might be very different right now if his coach felt the same way.
