Chargers signed Robert Meachem. That aint gonna cut it. Not even close. As of right now the Chargers are a 7-9 team. Let's see what A.J. can pull off. So far, not so good.

Chargers signed Robert Meachem. That aint gonna cut it. You get 75% of VJ for half the price of him, great move.

This means that Vincent Brown will be one of Phillip Rivers top targets next season. Meachem is a good player if he can stay healthy. I would expect the Chargers to bring in another veteran and build some depth.
The continued message from Dean Spanos and AJ Smith is that if you sign a contract and are compensated millions of dollars to play football for the San Diego Chargers, you can't get busted for DUI. I respect that. It does look a bit hypocritical to partner with an organization such as MADD while your star players are busted for drunk driving.

So far A.J.'s acting like he wants to get fired - like he's daring Dean to do it. Just more of the same old same old with him, which hasn't worked in about 5 years...

Can't tell if serious, A.J's done a great job so far this offseason unlike others, he has already upgraded the run defense big time, resigned the biggest reason for the improvement late in the year, and signed a WR with the potential to be a star. Not signing someone elite money when he isn't elite is smart.

Didn't we learn that VJ was expendable the year he sat out? Hardwick and Gaither were the most important signings. Now let's see what is done to shore up the defense.

You get 75% of VJ for half the price of him, great move. The problem is that the 25 percent missing is a HUGE difference.

So we have to HOPE that this guy makes us forget VJ. That's tough to swallow. We'll see.

We'll be fine on the O as we signed Gaither and Hardwick. Eddie Royal looks like a done deal, he could flourish in our system with Rivers throwing, and return punts too. We need more D!!!!!!!!!

That's the thing, value, I'd much rather have Meachem and a extra 5 mill laying around for defense than spend it on a offense that has finished top 5 in PPG for 5 straight years.

There was no way we were going to tie up that much money with Vincent, especially given his off the field history. Franchising would have cost in the neighborhood of nearly 14 million dollars, which would have been all against this year's salary cap. Let the moves play out before we rush to judgment, folks. McClain at fullback is a beast, he'll turn Mathews into a star. Just continue to work on the defense, especially at safety with Gregory's departure.

Chargers also sign Eddie Royal. Fans may remember him for torching the Bolts with a punt and kickoff return for touchdowns in the same game in 2009.

The Chargers still have no legit run stuffing nose tackle on defense (years later A.J. STILL hasn't adequately replaced Jamal Williams - although maybe this time A.J. finally found a guy who can do it, we'll see), no legit #1 receiver, no legit starting RB (I'm more durable than Matthews), a mediocre LB corps, a poor secondary, and an offensive like that still isn't nearly as good as it needs to be in order for this team to contend.
Even after today's signings the Chargers are only an 8-8 type team.
Just like in years past we're seeing all-pro types leave to be replaced by guys of lesser talent. That strategy doesn't work. It saves money, but it doesn't win championships.
