You see this around the world at rally and off road races. People standing alongside a race course with nothing in between them and the speeding automobiles let alone any safety barriers. I'm surprised there aren't more of these incidents. 4 of the deaths from San Diego area (3 from Escondido 1 from Spring Valley). Driver from San Marcos.

It is part of the excitement of the race. They go stand just feet away from speeding vehicles because of the thrill and the danger. People do get killed at these advents and everybody knows it. The reality is that everybody thinks it will be somebody else. Such is life.
