Tell me the nation with the greatest amount of personal freedom and the best climate and I will consider it.

I see, one of the barracks brigade who never went to anything but a bar in town. One who never really tried to do anything. I had people like that in Hawaii who claimed that locals there did not like them. Did you ever learn the language or even try? Did you ever develop an interest in local culture? Drinking Awamori till dawn does not qualify. Did you get with the locals in any setting? Well, I have in Hawaii, Okinawa, Japan, Guam and a little in the Philipines. There is nobody that does not like you on a personal level if you gve them a chance.

France is indeed beautiful. If I were considering emigrating to France, I would scout the south west coastal area. Seems to me that it is great territory, warm Atlantic waters, not too crowded. France does have lots of problems, of course, but what nation doesn't?
Since I speak Spanish (in case I never mentioned this, I am a retired Spanish teacher) I would of course strongly consider Spain. Mexico? Not until they get their civil war straightened out.
Germany is another possibility for me, since I also speak German (not nearly so well as Spanish, but well enough to become a functioning member of society.) Weather's a bit much in Germany, of course.
Australia? Sure, why not. Great people, lots of land, and they almost speak English! ;D
I'm afraid that there is no country on Earth that offers so much, especially in the way of personal freedom, as does the good 'ole U.S of A.

AzWm I have to live near the ocean. In France, those "warm Atlantic waters" can become incredibly cold in winter. I have reached the age where I like sun and warmth a lot more than cold, though I can tolerate a little of it. Northern California is about as far north as I will go in the US. The northern part of South Island is as far south as I will go on the under half of the world. In Argentina, no further south than Bahia Blanca. Anywhere along the south coast of Australia is fine but I really get annoyed with the sharks trying to nibble on you in the water.

No Australia? Really surprised. I went house hunting down there a third of a century ago. Very inexpensive then. I loved the country, especially the area around Perth and Freemantle ( a lot like San Diego).

No Australia? Really surprised. Aren't they currently underwater? Not all of it. Haven't made it out towards Perth but Mebourne is considered one of the most liveable cities in the world. I agree to a point. Miss my mexican food and warm weather too much.
