--for me this speaks volumes about what we have on the roster at the QB slot. A quick fix for a serious problem. We don't (IMO) have a serious problem at QB. What we have is a lack of experience. I think we have talent, but it is young. To get a guy like Katz with experience is great for the program.

And the amount of experience our qbs will have for next year?

And the amount of experience our qbs will have for next year? We'll worry about that next year.

You gotta play to win every week - not fair to the seniors to play for the future which often turns out diffent than expected anyway - give a young guy all the snaps one year, then he gets knocked out for the season in the first game of his "break out" year. let players compete and play to win every game.

this speaks volumes about what we have on the roster at the QB slot. A quick fix for a serious problem. It's extremely rare for a true or RS freshman to START a season at QB. Jeffries or Morrin may well beat out Katz, but it's not likely. With his experience Katz will start the game at UW and with a light schedule it would seem likely he'll stay in the #1 spot. Give the young #2, jeffries or morrin some experience in mop up duty throughout 2012. 2013 OOC has Utah State, SJSU and Oregon State. By the time we hit the Big East we should be fine. Play to win, now!

Over the last couple of years it seems even when we had a decent lead, we'd keep Lindly for almost the entire game.

Who knows, he may get beat out. Then we have a solid experienced backup. No downside at all. Know ye this, if the Freshmen and Sophomores can beat Katz out, they will have to have improved greatly in the past few weeks. Katz has got the tools, he just needs the coaching to be excellent. We definitely need him for the Washington game. To open with them is frightening when you are trying to start a kid at QB, so best to go with Katz for at least the first game.

Actually love jeffries, but i detest morin seen him live 4 or 5 times hes very inconsistent coaches already commented about his flaws. On plus side got a canon arm and can scramble but if you cant hit a barn not much of a future for morin.

If you comprehend college football you know that an 18 year old with flaws can be a 21 year old All American. That said Morin may or may not improve. If Brian Sipe, who knows more about QBs than all of us combined, shared your no comprende opinion, they would not have offered him. Short version, they are not today, overally excited about who is in the mix and need both Morin and Katz to make it competitive. We have a BIG hole to fill at QB.

Happy he is here, he'll compete and earn a slot if he deserves. Go AZTECS!

At the end of the day, competition is a good thing (as many people have alleviated to on this board). IMO, this is the best of both worlds. If Dingwell isn't good enough, it buys both Jeffries and Morin a year if they aren't ready.
