I am okay with AJ returning (though I think he is an egotistical asshole--there are FAR worse GM's).
I was disappointed to see Norv return. He is a likable person, but I think he has many shortcomings as a football coach. His inability to get his team up for key games (see @ Cincy last year, @ Detroit this year) was infuriating. And yes, the players share responsibility but you can't fire the entire roster. It took Denver completely tanking in 2009 for us to back our way into the playoffs, and the last two seasons sucked.
There are two big reasons why they are returning:
$12MM owed to them both on their contracts. Rivers is a huge proponent of Norv and made it clear he wanted him back.

Wow...just wow. I expected at least one of them to be fired. BOTH of them returning is still unbelievable, despite the reasons Josh Jones listed above for them returning

Keeping Norv is actually a smart move. He's a much better coach than anyone gives him credit for. He's judged much too harshly for his record in Washington and Oakland, when the truth is that NO ONE has had any success recently in either of those two places. Hell, Marty Schottenheimer and Mike Shanahan both failed miserably in Washington under Daniel Snyder's ownership. And the Raiduhs, well.......they're the Raiduhs. What did anyone expect?
When he was the offensive coordinator here, I got to see Norv do his thing every day. The guy is about as intense a coach as I've ever seen. He is tough and he is demanding, but he's also a really good guy that the players will rally around. He had a far better command of that team than the head coach at the time, Mike Riley, did.
Norv is not the problem. The problem is the other guy who is supplying him with the players to work with. The guy who has created a very negative workplace atmosphere. The guy who fired the guy who actually ran the draft, the only person he would listen to on personnel matters (and yes, Buddy Nix was fired).

Ok, continuity it is. The Chargers were one botched Rivers snap vs. the Chiefs from making the playoffs. That happens and this discussion isn't happening. Rebuild the defense and come back strong.

And the lunacy continues. VJ will be gone now. And gawd forbid what the next Sammy Davis picks of AJ will be this year. When the heck is the announcement for dumping Manusky coming?

What did you expect from this franchise? Over the years how many smart football decisions have been made? They normally stumble into dumb luck. At least we can watch Smith draft another player in the 1st round that shouldn't be drafted that high and makes no impact on the team but is a solid character guy. The owners will shell out some serious cash (ok just above league minimum) in free agency for an over the hill player that was good 5 years ago but will provide veteran leadership. Cheap and stupid is how you summarize this franchise.
SDSU fans should start encouraging Charger fans to dump their over priced tickets for a crappy product and become season ticket holders for the Aztecs.

This sucks.

Meh........I still think Norv is the right guy. But something has to change in that building. The atmosphere and the attitude must change for the better.

Very disappointed. The Chargers have become exactly as mediocre as I and Fear the Show had warned, seeing what Norbert had done to the Redskins. We've delayed the inevitable decision another year... ugh.

No word on Manusky yet. A good deal of fans were not pleased with him.

We've delayed the inevitable decision another year... ugh. Right.......because the Redskins have just won so many championships and been such a league powerhouse since Norv was canned by Snyder........ At some point you have to stop blaming Norv and take a look at the rest of the organization--including and especially the owner--and see that they might just have bigger problems than just the head coach. I mean, Shanahan was a pretty big time hire. How's he done the last two years?

I really think AJ has been a dark cloud for the organization. He needs to lighten up a little bit, or just walk away. A lot of the players seem to resent him. anyhow, I think this team makes the playoffs next season with a revitalized line and some young play makers on defense.
