Was front and center for today's opening round. Saw Alessandro Alberto, Brandon Randolph and Isaiah Bailey play. I'll post some quick observations on each. Alberto : Not much to report, unfortunately. Fresh off the academically ineligible list, he was very rusty. Sat out the first half of Taft's game against Lake Washington. Came in to the game in the second half, picked up a quick foul, missed a shot, and had some unforced errors with turnovers. Would like to see him again to get a better evaluation. Randolph : Like this kid. Very athletic, good jumper/rebounder for his size (Listed at 6'3".) Came off the bench for Playa Del Rey which has a pretty solid starting backcourt. Next year, Randolph will be the starting PG, as the Vikings graduate almost every other guard on the roster that played meaningful minutes today. Very good passing the ball today, struggled a bit with his perimeter shot, had some bad bounces. All in all, good looking prospect. Excited to see where he is a year from now. Bailey : Only a sophomore, this kid really impressed me. Needs to add some weight, but he's still filling out in his young age. Has some quickness, had a few nice drives to the basket today. Liked him the best out of all our reported "targets." Didn't have a ton of help offensively today against a very stout Archbishop Mitty team, led by Drew Gordon's little brother, Aaron. Post questions if you have any, I'll do my best to answer them. Saw a lot of basketball today, some of which is a blur.

Thanks Tom. Tough to keep track of all these players with 8 games crammed into one day. Was a very good day for hoops fans though. Tons of talent on display.

Ryan, which coaches did you see at the games today?

Saw Coach Fisher and Tony Bland up in the corner for most of the day. Didn't see many head coaches in attendance, but the place was packed with scouts. Off the top of my head....Nevada, Penn, Dartmouth, Stanford, UCLA, USC (Had a half dozen or so) Cal, Oregon, Illinois and Arizona.

I heard at least 7 of the 12 Pac-12 schools had people there. Also heard those damn pesky Running Rebels had someone there as well.

Yeah, most of the Pac-12 was represented. They all sat together in the same section. Did not see Lorenzo Romar, who is usually a fixture at the event, but I'm assuming he's prepping for Oregon State on Thursday. Didn't see any UNLV personnel, but it's possible they were lurking. Saw Coach Bland as soon as he walked in before the Taft game started, both he and Coach Fisher were there for several hours.

Did you talk to Tony or Fisher?

I read on twitter that some of The Show was in attendance and mingled with Bland. True?

If Mr. Lewis tweeted it (he was there)...it's true. I didn't get a chance to speak with Tony or Fish, they get mugged enough at these events without me bothering them, ha.

Some highlights of Beejay Anya, Tyree Robinson, and Aaron Gordon: ballislife.com/top-plays-from-torrey-pines-holiday-classic-feat-aaron-gordon-tyree-robinson-beejay-anya/We had been recruiting Tyree Robinson and his brother Tyrell but I don't know how active that is these days. And Aaron Gordon is of course a major major prospect (brother of UNM's Drew Gordon and son of an Aztec), who has us listed as low interest. He's been high on Washington for a while now and that's probably where he's headed. aztecryan: I think we're also recruiting Kris Yanku of Taft though we haven't offered yet. How did he look? Similar with Dakarai Allen.

Allen is an enigma to me. Talented, but I would have concerns with his motor and energy level. Not a great shooter, more of a scorer. Anya is a man child. Guy absolutely dominated Lincoln in the first half. Runs the floor well for his size and showed range on the jumper.

We joke about the weather being a factor in recruiting so often but with all of these recruits out here for the TP classic, the great weather sure doesn't hurt: twitter.com/#!/DeMathaHoops/status/152487860396765185
