I was old enough to be around and see the Chargers under Don Coryell assemble what was for about a 5 year window, hands down the best team in the NFL. The result: Zip. Nada. Zilch.
And those who were too young to remember that era, just saw the same comet pass over San Diego, I hope you enjoyed it. For the past 5 years, as Rex Ryan so eloquently reminded us earlier this season, The Chargers had an absolute unfair amount of talent, for several years, and the results are the same as the Dan Fouts era.
The good news is, Los Angeles is only a 2 hour drive.
Now over to the Padres Hot Stove League thread for more laughs and fun in the sun.

however, the window closed a few years back.
AJ's reign was in vain! sounds like a pretty good t-shirt being that he told LT that his playing day in a Chargers uniform would not be in vain, implying that they would win a championship with him on the team. LOL!

I was old enough to be around and see the Chargers under Don Coryell I AM old enough to be around to see the Chargers under Sid Gillman at Balboa Stadium. As much as I dislike Norv and believe he should be fired, Norv does have a higher winning percentage than Coryell as a Charger HC.

As much as I dislike Norv and believe he should be fired, Norv does have a higher winning percentage than Coryell as a Charger HC. He had more talent than Coryell had to work with in his last 3 or 4 years. And Coryell had to coach in a much tougher division with Super Bowl teams from Oakland/L.A. and Denver to contend with. Norv has been fortunate to coach in one of the worst divisions in football.

The window isn't closed yet. Rivers still has 5 good seasons in him, rebuild the defense and get a marquee running back and this team will be back in the AFC Championship picture.

I agree, the window isn't closed.
I don't think we need to rebuild the defense. We need an impact pass rusher. Defense has to be able to pressure the QB, and we just can't do that consistently.

Need a monster on the defensive line, even though I like our youth and ability up there. Definitely agree on the impact pass rusher. Need an impact safety as well. Weddle is great, but undersized, Gregory is very undersized. Need a run stuffing safety that also makes teams afraid to throw over the middle. Lastly, Manusky's garbage scheme has to go.

The defensive line has never recovered from the loss of Jamaal Williams. Get a monster pass rusher in the draft, hope Luiget continues to improve and replace Castillo, he gets injured too much. I would also think about getting another corner, Jammer has lost a step, too many receivers ran by him this year.

The window is closed and A.J. nailed it shut by letting go of so many good players (whom he replaced with journeymen and rookies).
However, it can be pried back open if Dean fires A.J. and Norv and brings in a legitimately good GM/HC combo.
