believe Johnson must register for a transfer before a school starts the spring semester -mid January. Any one have any sound information on what Pelle is doing . Is Shepard still waiting for the spring signing time We better get at least 1 of these 3 guys or it will be very disappointing. If we didn't get any of those 3, and only landed Anthony January, I'd still be stoked. January will probably end up challenging for the LA City and possibly even the CA player of the year. January is a do-it-all wing in the mold of Leonard, Hobson, Mike Moser, etc.

Looks like UNM only inquired about Johnson. He listed us but our stable is full. I think hes SDSU bound at this time.

From UT
San Diego State remains the leader for 6-foot-9 Virginia transfer James Johnson, but Johnson is first expected to take a trip to New Mexico State, which is coached by former SDSU assistant Marvin Menzies. His father, Ted Johnson, has said he hopes to have a decision by the end of the week …

I like our chances a lot better that we are going against New Mexico STATE instead of the Lobos. I know he is not from So Cal (just moved here for a few years) but not sure how he can seriously consider NMSU over SDSU at this point. SDSU is better program than Washington State as well (the other program he says he is visiting).

i dont really think its about location for the young man, i think he wants to find a system where he can really flourish. So he will check out places that have a quicker tempo.

Story will be up on ASR within 24 hours I'd say if this holds water, Edward was all over this.

UNLV and SDSU both want a big man and I’m guessing UNLV doesn’t want two. UNLV might have Birch 1 and Pelle 2. SDSU might have Pelle 1 and Johnson 2. Johnson seems to be the last man in the waiting game but just a guess. Birch and Johnson need to commit soon so you’ll see all this play out over the next 10 days.

Birch is set to make his decision this weekend, at the conclusion of his UNLV visit: www.lcsun-news.com/las_cruces-sports/ci_19682700Based on his comments and rumors after the Florida visit and the fact that he's not going to go on to visit Gonzaga, it seems likely he'll end up at Florida. UNLV will land Pelle and hopefully, we get James Johnson - whom I think will end up being a better fit for us than Norvel Pelle.

Based on the fact that he has not qualified yet (and may only play 1 year), I'd take the sure thing with Johnson and his 2 1/2 years left.

If Norvel is a one and done player, Aztecs would be much better off with J. Johnson for 2 1/2 years and he fits in well since he could take a scholarship opening this season to start learning the team and system and be ready to rock and roll by this time next year heading to conference play. Johnson might give a major contribution for 3 seasons.

Especially since Spencer may be 6'10" by the time he starts playing at SDSU - giving us a legit shot blocking force to play at the 5 so Johnson can play the 4.

Johnson will probably be better than both Stephens and Spencer, but if he doesn't come until Dec. the other two will get a shot to establish themselves in the rotation.
