Is it me, or has Bill and Ryan been talking about drafts, "prospects", and the Won/Loss record of our AA affiliate since 2006?
Which is fine, and I appreciate the knowledge. But one has to wonder why so little is heard from them in regards to the MAJOR LEAGUE CLUB.
Man, to hear you folks (Bill especially) spin it.......the Padres better be perennial pennant contenders from 2013 til 2018 at least!!! With all this talent being harvested down on the farm....

Again, it makes no difference how good your farm system is if your Major League club is, essentially, a AAAA club for the big boys.
The Padres don't hold on to talent. They trade away every good player they have once he is worth any kind of real MLB money. There is NO consistency. NO core of a team to build around. It's always scraps and leftovers and guys who aren't yet MLB starter caliber.
When the team commits to a $70+ million payroll (which they can easily afford) then they will show otherwise. But even a $50 million payroll is near the bottom of the league, and this isn't a small market team - it's a mid market team.

The Padres will develop these kids into Major Leaguers, then trade them to Contenders where they will become Hall of Famers in other teams caps. Trade them for more prospects and draft picks of course. ;D

Cedric Hunter Freddie Guzman Junior Herndon George arias Wascar Serrano Dennis tankersley Sean Burroughs Matt antonelli Ceasar Carrillo I could go and on. All organizations miss on more than they hit but the Padres have been despicable.

Freddie Guzman Junior Herndon George arias Wascar Serrano Dennis tankersley Sean Burroughs Matt antonelli Ceasar Carrillo I could go and on. All organizations miss on more than they hit but the Padres have been despicable. Those players were never rated real high overall but only within the Padres org. Now some folks have said the Padres, because of their great depth of good players in the minors, are the best minors.

I believe you when you say we have plenty of "good" players in the minors, but how many of them project to be stars? My guess is not many. It is like recruiting in NCAA football. At different levels of ratings players will become stars in MLB at different percentages. Having a whole lot of "B-type" players means we will (most likely) have a number that succeed. In the past we had very few "B-type" players and the numbers just didn't work out for the Padres.

Maybe you can help me think of some others that follow your formula.
