A Sacramento Kings Coach ( a friend of the family) game me a ticket for NBA Pre-Season game between the Sac. Kings and Golden State Warriors.
I could not resist going because I wanted to see Jimmer Fredette, Tyler Honeycutt, Isaiah Thomas and Klay Thompson (GSW) play.
Specifically, I wanted to see the Jimmer! Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but contrary to my/your prior opinions about Jimmer's ability to play in the NBA, he can play!
Now, hold on before you guys start attacking the thread, Jimmer or me. Can he play? Yes, but. There's always a but. Offensively,
he can play. Defensively, he cannot play.
Offensively, he made some big shots last night that kept the Kings in the game. Of course, Marcus Thornton (undrafted out of LSU, I believe) made the biggest shot that gave Kings the win.
Defensively, Jimmer is a liability, but the Pro game is so fast that one hardly notices that you got beat defensively or people say, "Well, Monte Ellis is good and he is supposed to score on Jimmer." True.
In other words, NBA Coaching will turn their heads when Jimmer
gets beat, but they know Jimmer can score! Jimmer's ability to score and consistently knock down 3 point shots is going to keep him the NBA for a few years.
In fact, the issue that Jimmer will have to deal with is his team-
mates willingness to pass him the ball! However, it was obvious
last night that he is the King's Fan Favorite!
As a matter of fact, those of us, and I am guilty, stated that Jimmer is slow, and he is. However, it was Jimmer's cross-over dribble drive that caused Steph Curry's ankle injury!
Bottomline, if a college player can consistently make open shots,
win a lot of games and get a lot of publicity for scoring points, said player has a shot to play in the NBA!
It was amazting to me that shooting has become a lost art. The players who can/could shoot the basketball were on the Court.
No question that the Bigs dominate the positions, but when the game was on the line, the ball in the hands of a scorer/shooter!
