I like him for the experience. And I definitely would not mind seeing him as starting QB next year.

Unless they have no confidence in the young guys, a stop gap like a one year transfer has to be a very good QB. Katz was mediocre at best at Oregon State and that was when he knew the offense completely. Perhaps, you bring him in as the main backup because you'd assume he could jump right into a game easier than someone with no experience. But, I'd pass unless the player is of the caliber of Wilson from Wisconsin/NC State.

I don't think you hand him the job but why not bring in a guy to compete for it with a year of experience as a starter in the Pac 10? Katz was more highly touted than Russell Wilson coming out of high school for what it's worth...

Katz is a solid Jewish QB, but I agree with aztecpaulg that even if the new guys are definitely not ready, this guy is not the answer. Very average player.

Experience and baseline skill set -- for the cost of a schollie only for one year -- makes it worth bringing the kid in for next season. What do you lose? Really nothing. And it gives us an insurance policy... if NONE of the younger guys are able to set up into the starter's role... this guy could do at least an okay job. If he's not good enough to beat them out... that's okay, or commitment only lasts one year.

To add though, I'd just say that my preference is that he truly would be an insureane policy, as in either Jeffries or Dingwell beat him out

If one of our QBs isn't ready to step up and assume the starting position then I question our coaching and recruiting. We have 3-4 QBs who have been in this system for 1-3 years and came here with various accolades. We have been facing and losing to other programs with a true Frosh QB and they seem to do well. I'm for passing on this kind of situation and using the scollie in a higher need position.......DT, LB or WR.

He was benched last year so he's trending downward rather than upwards. As for the cost, 1 scholarship, that's one less freshman or JC player you bring in for next year. I like the idea of bringing in an older player, but not one who's lost his mojo. San Jose State is not good company for us to be recruiting against. They aren't even in a BCS conference!

He's from Sta. Monica, so I'm sure that is why he's looking Cali schools

Katz was benched after what? 1 game? Other than a banged up James Rodgers they have had no weapons on the outside the last 2 years, one thing I like about Katz is he is mobile and can make a couple plays with his feet. Pretty accurate too.
