At the time, I thought that legislatures controlled by Democrats would not allow a waiver of CEQA. That was naive on my part given that I watched Waddie Deddah partially dismantle CEQA's requirements when it came to archaeology sites back in the early '80s. How do you think Wadie (one "d") got rich enough to move from a smaller tract home in Chula Vista to a huge mansion atop a hill in Bonita? It was not running an Arab market or his salary from the state legislature.

How do you think Wadie (one "d") got rich enough to move from a smaller tract home in Chula Vista to a huge mansion atop a hill in Bonita? It was not running an Arab market or his salary from the state legislature. You forget that at that time I lived in O.B. and really didn't know much of anything about Wadie Deddah. Hell, back then I don't think I'd ever been to Bonita and had barely seen CV. What upset me a lot more, and opened my eyes a lot more, was Larry Kapiloff backing Wadie because Wadie was his "mentor" when he first got to Sactown. As for Democrats being more rotten than Republicans, that's open to debate. As I've said any number of times, power doesn't corrupt; power attracts corruptible people, so I think both parties have a lot of corrupted politicians. =Bob |

The problem is that government has gotten so big that it controls a very large portion of GDP. Therefore, politicians are in a position to dispense legislative favors to powerful citizens who do favors in return. If government were smaller and stayed to a few core duties (defense, court system, roads, etc.), there would be less corruption. Not zero corruption, but less. Example: Notice that cosmetic surgery got a break in recent legislation while tanning salons did not. Now, I wonder how that happened?  AzWm |

You have to recognize that Democrats are even more rotten than Repubs on things like that. Come on. They're BOTH awful. At least in California, both Democrats and Republicans whore themselves out to developers. One of the things I liked about living in San Diego was that at least back in the late seventies and early eighties, it appeared that the whoring was a bit less prominent than in L.A., Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties. (To its credit, Ventura county government also seems to be less controlled by developers.) |

At least in California, both Democrats and Republicans whore themselves out to developers. One of the things I liked about living in San Diego was that at least back in the late seventies and early eighties, it appeared that the whoring was a bit less prominent than in L.A., Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties. (To its credit, Ventura county government also seems to be less controlled by developers.) I guess I will have to agree with you. Being corrupt is an absolute. You are or you are not! You can not be a little bit pregnant!  If there were some way to measure on some scale, I maintain that Dems are worse the Repubs. |

There is a large family in San Diego, and any of them can sue if they see a comment like that disparages the family reputation. |

It may seem like that to you since a lot of the things that we seem to line up in opposition to are similar, but the things we are for are vastly different. I think that it is beneath you to claim any kind of victimization based on opposition to your views by two vastly different people. Who has a bigger house? Who is a bigger crook? Cunningham or Wadie? I never said directly anything about Wadie. That does not mean I don't know or think I know some things. I know and have been shown many times that Cunningham just was not big enough to resist the temptation that power lets you think you can get by with. Just so you know, I do get some sort of strange satisfaction when an exchange includes the frustrated "you are full of crap" line. It shows that you know you have been bested and can't help yourself by responding with dignity. |
