What do the Padres need to do to become a playoff team? Upgrade the outfield? More speed? Pitching? Assuming the Padres are going to add a few more million to the payroll who would you sign or trade for? Can Rizzo get it done or should the Pads bring in a veteran power hitting 1B?

In no particular order, who I think should start next season
LF Blanks (did much better last year) CF Maybin (best offensive player) RF Venable/Denorfia 3B Headley SS Bartlett (is he even signed for next season?) 2B Hudson (see Bartlett) 1B Guzman/Rizzo C Hundley (was on fire after returning from the DL)
Main issue I think is for Latos, Richard, etc to improve ALOT from last year

They have addressed 5th outfielder (Kotsay), backup Catcher, and closer. I think they will be adding another outfielder to start in right field. They may add a starter and another reliever. Unless a bigger trade is made to upgrade any of the positions you list. Could happen. I only doubt 1B, CF, or C is messed with.

Still not a playoff team. Pretty close to 71 win team from last year.

And if you add 'coach', this goes for the Chargers as well...

Padres are garbage. Management is banking on Guzman having an all star year is so stupid. but they are strapped financially so it's hard to blame them.
So pathetic. Unless our ownership sells the team to someone who is willing to spend, I think we're looking at a Pittsburgh Pirates type playoff droubt.

I used to have season tickets.. to quote tecpride00.. Padres are Garbage.. either spend the money to be good, or get the F out of the way and make room for someone to do it.. and then once you do it, dont trade any player that is good away before the trade deadline for "potential".. waste of energy to even follow the team.. we are in the business of making other teams great after players come here and realize what they signed up for.. cant believe padres got a stadium while chargers are threatening to leave.. all padres did was get hammered to death in the WS..

If Burns can keep his windup and mechanics clean, really good trade. Cunningham was out of options and was going to likely be released at some point. Good value.

Moorad should never have been allowed to buy the team. He didn't have the cash, and he's been spending what should have been player payroll money to Moores instead in order to pay him off. The team is going to suck for years because of this.
We would have almost been better off with McCourt.

Strange trade. Burns looks to be the more valuable player. He is a very promising young closer prospect. I guess the Indians see something in Cunningham. Burns minor league career: 88 Saves 147 innings 35 Walks 188 Ks 0.97 WHIP 2.02 ERA Very good numbers. He is 23 at "AA" last year. So he is at an age appropriate league.

So, with the recent additions the lineup is kind of looking like this:
CF Maybin SS Bartlett 3B Headley LF Quenten 1B Blanks/Guzman RF Venable 2B Hudson C Hundley
Key Bench Players: Alonzo, Forsythe, Kotsay, Denorfia
Staff: Stauffer, Leubke, Volquez, Moseley, Richard Pen: Street, Gregerson, Frieri, Thatcher
Nice speed and defense, it would also be nice if that veteran middle of the infield hit for a decent average. I also would like to see another power bat somewhere. The staff needs Leubke and Moseley to become solid MLB pitchers (12 + wins) for this team to even think about playoffs.

Alonzo projects to be the starter. Hundley is a good hitter and should hit 5th or 6th. Anthony Bass should either be in the starting rotation or in the pen. He came on last year and pitched very well. His last two appearances were as a starter going 10 innings giving up 1 run. He had a 1.68 ERA for the year and was only 23 years old. RF Venable / Denorfia - Left / Right Platoon. In some places where right field is not as big as Petco the Padres may play Guzman and Quenten at the corner outfield spots.

Last year I didn't bet on it because I was not as sure. This year has a lot of questions. I could see 2010 or 2011 type years.

Sometimes I have good feelings. Sometimes I have bad feelings. Sometimes I am not too sure either way. Without that 3rd option being the case at times, I wouldn't have too much faith in feeling positive or negative.
