All secondary schools should discuss this case with their students. This should never have happened and perhaps similar incidents can be prevented by dealing with the problem openly. I will say this; the school should not have let the victim act and dress in the ways he did. It did him no good, obviously, and only incited another student who was perhaps as confused as he was. And, no, I am not blaming the victim. I'm just saying that his behavior created a serious distraction at school whether or not violence was involved. Of course, I'm sure the ACLU would have gotten after the school if they had not allowed the boy to continue his activities. Perhaps fear of that prevented decisive action on the part of the school. www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-1122-gay-shooting-20111122,0,425342.story AzWm

All of this could have been avoided if we scrapped the public education system and went to a voucher system where the parents could chose the appropriate school for their son. The state is the least cost effective educator. Compared to the systems in Europe, it is the worst educator, too.

Love the "right-wing crap". It was only a touch of right wing bias. AztecJoe is on to the real idea. We could cut the cost of public education by forty to fifty percent if we went to a voucher system. I have advocated for a voucher system for a third of a century, ever since I tasked my wife with homeschooling the children. She took her MBA and dual degrees from the University of California and became a full time housewife and educator of our kids. It would have been nice if the state gave me vouchers for the students in my home school.
