I think it's a really great looking football stadium.
I hope that if San Diego gets a new stadium (no matter where) that they get a good desgin, not something that looks like an insectiside refinery or the spaceship from the flight of the navigator.

I bet that the Q could be refurbished - as was Soldier Field in Chicago - for far less than the Billion Dollars plus that Spanos, Inc. wants us to spend on a new house downtown. And it could be good for another 50 years. The Q would need some major work, but so did Soldier Field.
To not even have seriously considered a remodel of the Q seems somewhat crazy to me. It doesn't need to be rebuilt from the ground up.

I bet that the Q could be refurbished - as was Soldier Field in Chicago I think that the term renovation and refurbished are used way too loosely. Projects like Soldier Field, Stanford Stadium, and Memorial Stadium in Berkeley I would consider total rebuilds because the only element that was kept was purely asthetic. Soldier Field was not renovated, it was completely rebuilt. I would consider projects at Aarowhead and Joe Robbie more like renovations. So the question is, does Qualcomm have anything worth preserving? The answer is no. I do love the brutalist architecture though. But for NFL football, I'm afraid that Qualcomm needs more like a total rebuild, rather than a renovation.

I have never been to Qualcomm but from what I hear even the lowest sections are far from the field. So yes, some major renovations need to be done. The cost of real estate is just too high in California. If a new stadium goes up I guarantee you the taxpayers are paying for it.

The Q is fine for now. They need to add a few more ladies restrooms, but that can easily be fixed. It is a fantastic stadium that is great for fan participation. Screw Spanos et al.
