It won't be pretty. A look at how the British National Health Service works, or doesn't work, sure scares the hell out of me. For one thing, if ObamaCare follows the British pattern, which Berwick favors, my wife would probably not get the knee replacement she is considering. You don't think so? Well, Berwick, who thinks the British health care system is just fine, is dedicated to changes which will cost American lives. But, that's the way it goes, according to Berwick. We must face the obvious. There is no way a government run system will not end up costing billions more while at the same time limiting treatments in order to cut costs. That's bad enough, of course, but there is something even worse. Those who tell you that you are too old to have a knee replacement (which would include my wife), for instance, will themselves not be subject to the same rationing. As Thomas says. . . In Britain, as in America, top officials (including Berwick, who has lifetime health coverage given to him by the Institute for Health Care Improvement) will always have access to the best care, even while they decide the rest of us cannot.Well, I wonder how many more problems will be foisted on the American people because legislators (okay, Democrats!) vote for bills they were told had to be supported for political reasons even though they never read them! www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2010/07/30/obamacare_means_lower_quality_long_waits_106553.htmlAzWm

We will greatly expand Socialized Medicine in the future in this country so that all are covered for any and all operations. Sex change surgery for bob will be covered. Hanoi Jane can get herself a Big Gun if she really wants one. Think of all the wonderful miracles Socialized Medicine can bring to the American People!

Joe, if you think that government run health care will allow everyone to receive any and all treatments regardless of cost, you are out of touch with reality. The well-documented history of nationalized health systems the world over reveals the truth, which contradicts you contention.

My optimism knows no boundaries. Remember, as a Liberal, I know that all spent government money is free. All we have to do is borrow from the FED and then ask the FED to forgive the debt. I posted that as soon as I became a Liberal. Nobody can contest that fact, so why worry about cost. With my program, we will be totally socialist in no time. Praise Obama. P.S. I think, William, you momentarily lost your perspective.

Simple fact of the matter is that under Socialism the money for the health care is free. Remember, we just borrow it from the FED.

That is only a sampling of the problems. I have told the story of the Canadians crossing the border up in Washington to get access to care that is rationed in Canada. We could do better, but are starting out on the wrong path. I guess we can not expect much more from a bunch of inexperienced ideological liberals.

Here is a Cato Institute article that clearly explains why govt. health is a bad idea. Written in '96, it is every bit as timely now as it was then. Those who favor nationalized health simply will not come to grips with the inevitable defects of such a system. Until they do, we will never have a really rational system that provides the best care at the best price. www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=6293AzWm

I think it is a decent analysis. www.cato.org/pubs/pas/pa-613.pdfThis should be required reading for anyone who thinks government run health care is a good idea. Why, for god's sake, are those on the Left so in love with socialized medicine? This Cato report makes so much sense that one has to wonder whether fans of ObamaCare are semi-brain dead or truly malevolent. A couple of bits from this report really stand out. Here is one. . . . . . citizens of many countries put social solidarity and equality ahead of quality and choice when it comes to health policy . . .What really scares me is the thought that the Left in this country believes just that! Hey, we know health care is crappy, but at least everyone is in the same boat. But, of course, everyone is not in the same boat. The truly rich (which means people with a net worth of tens or hundreds of millions of dollars, not those whose income is $250,000 a year) will never play by the rules. They will always be able to find a way (i.e., bribe) to put their grandmother, spouse, or child at head of the line while the "little people" hope that they don't die while waiting for badly needed care. In fact, didn't the authors of ObamaCare create a loophole so that they won't have to live under the same system? Nice! Here's more . . . Although no country with universal coverage is contemplating abandoning a universal system, the broad and growing trend in countries with national health care systems is to move away from centralized government control and introduce more market-oriented features.Great! Politicians and bureaucrats around the world are actually seeing what works and are modifying their systems accordingly. Meanwhile the clowns who stood around with silly grins on their faces as Obama signed this monstrosity into law are headed in exactly the opposite . . . and disastrous. . . direction. If it were not virtually certain that this misbegotten law will cost American lives, one would be tempted to laugh. AzWm

The simple fact of the matter is that we will have fundamental care for the unwashed masses.
