All of my Fundamentalist Christian friends are convinced that Obama is not a Christian. Specifically (as they point out) he does not understand the Biblical definition of Christianity. If you do not understand it, you can not be a Christian (or so they say.)
Hummmmm?

Don't you mean your fundamentalist Christian friends don't believe Obama is a fundamentalist Christian?

We have freedom of religion in this country. It shouldn't make any difference. However, is Barry being truthful about his beliefs? I don't think so.

Don't you mean your fundamentalist Christian friends don't believe Obama is a fundamentalist Christian? Your words are correct. Most of the Fundamentalist Christians do not believe that non-Fundamentalists are actually Christian. From their perspective if you are not emotionally involved in your walk with God, then your faith must not be real. (True faith results in changed character in the believer.) I have seen that reality among some, but I do not know if it applies to all. As I told my children as they were growing up, people who are strong believers have something that the Bible calls "The Peace That Passes Understanding." Most Christians might have had it at one time in their lives, but from what I see most have lost it over the years while trying to make house payments and raise a family. Maybe the true definition of a "True Christian" believer is one who at least one time in his or her life had the Peace that Passes Understanding.

It's a bit of a dumb troll by Joe, but it does bring up a point - if there is such a thing as "American Exceptionalism", why should it matter what religion, why does it matter what religion, or lack of religion, a person follows? And how can we argue there is any such thing as American Exceptionalism when the Christian Right, or at least some segments of it, refuse to vote for someone who is LDS and, for that matter, has never shown much enthusiasm for a Catholic?

Jesus is an historical figure for me, and he’s also a bridge between God and man, in the Christian faith, and one that I think is powerful precisely because he serves as that means of us reaching something higher. And he’s also a wonderful teacher. I think it’s important for all of us, of whatever faith, to have teachers in the flesh and also teachers in history. (NOTE: Obama sees Jesus as a “Historical figure… wonderful teacher… a means for of us reaching something higher” and not as his redeemer, Messiah, or Savior and Lord.) Obama......

(NOTE: Obama sees Jesus as a “Historical figure… wonderful teacher… a means for of us reaching something higher” and not as his redeemer, Messiah, or Savior and Lord.) Obama...... Assuming your view of Obama's theological view is correct, and I'm not so sure it is, I would agree with his interpretation of his view if you are accurate. There are "Christians" whose sole theological belief system is based upon their fear of death and their desire to get into Heaven and then there are Christians like me, who were taught from an early age that getting into Heaven should never be a consideration - that what counts is following the teachings of Jesus while we live in our current life. Because I believe the latter, I also accept Taoism and Zen because both are also teachings on how we live our lives in the real world while not bothering with the world that spiritualist Christians live in. And really, Fundamental Christianity is nothing more than Victorian spiritualism, grounded in the "after life" that is based upon the fear of death. It's a narcissistic view of life that tells people they are important in God's eye because God gives a rat's ass about their sorry lives. Got news for ya folks - if there is a God, he or she doesn't give a crap about your life - God created the Heavens and the Earth and moved on to another project. =Bob

Got news for ya folks - if there is a God, he or she doesn't give a crap about your life - God created the Heavens and the Earth and moved on to another project. =Bob Shame! Shame! Shame on you, bob. I always point out that whenever people who are not believers reach that low point in their lives they look for God. In their search they almost always come away with the impression that they are not good enough. IF they are motivated by that impression they start out to do something to improve themselves. If there is a totally indifferent God out there, who is always on that wavelength when people are searching? Nope, bob, you type of agnosticism has been tried before. It always fails the believer, and the believers frequently become substance abusers. God is there. He is interested in seeing us become loving, kind, considerate, patient (and a whole bunch of other things) type of people. He promises to help us if we call upon him for guidance. If you shut God out of your life, what you are actually shutting out is His guidance. Tune in, Turn on and drop your worries on God. His system works.

When Barry failed to mention God in his Thanksgiving message it should be clear. Um, what "should be clear"? And while you're at it, please tell us why the only persons who are capable of running this country are religious fanatics such as you. You really are a fundamental, religionist POS, aren't you? Your political ideology is based upon nothing more than your pathetic belief that if you just follow the bull$#!+ line your pastor offers you as your path into Heaven you will follow him up one side and down the other. It's really quite simple. Pooh - you have no understanding at all of what it means to be a "Christian". You believe that you can lie, cheat and steal and you will be forgiven simply because you engage in false piety while not following any of JC's teachings. OMG, Obama didn't make you happy - live with it while you also question your rather pathetic religious beliefs. Quite frankly, I'm not sure I've ever run into anyone who has as pathetic Protestant theology as you have. So fell free to note the time I've written this instead of addressing the fact that as a "Christian" you really have no understanding of Christian theology and what it means to be a Protestant. You just buy into what this or that pastor tells you to believe instead of actually thinking for yourself and that is really, really, sad. We are not about the Old Testament and we are not about fanaticism. We are about living our lives as JC taught us to live in canThe Parables and the Sermon on the Mount. We are not about getting into Heaven, we are about following JC's teachings while we are on this planet - Heaven can wait. You came to religion late while I was steeped in it from the time I was 5. All you think about is how to get into Heaven while not recognizing what JC taught. Do good works Pooh, instead of assuming that your piety by going to church every Sunday and dropping bucks in the collection plate will get you a path into Heaven. =Bob
