When I subscribed to the newspaper I used to take it into the bathroom for my morning constitutional.
I stopped reading the Front Page about age 30 and would go directly to the Sports Page and then the comics.
Why did I stop reading the Front Page? It was filled with too much depressing news, (Murders, Assassinations, Scandals, Wars and rumors of wars -- I.E. all the news that was ill fit to print.)
When the Chargers and the Aztecs both sucked, I stopped reading the Sports Page and would just take the Regional News and the Comic sections into the bathroom with me.
Well, it got to the point that the Regional News was mostly depressing, so I just took the comics.
It was about then that I realized that it was silly to pay good money for a newspaper that I did not read, so I discontinued it. I now have a novel or the National Geographic in the bathroom for my morning constitutional. I don't miss the newspaper at all.
What is your read on all of this?

For me, old habits are hard to give up. I like getting the newspaper in the morning, flipping through the pages, and finding what I like.
I usually just take the local news section, and the sports section into the head with me and do my duty. Like you said, the rest is depressing. Heck, I usually just check in here, and read the threads in the political sections, etc..... to catch me up on what's happening in the world.
