TCU could actually leverage the MWC into a much better tv contract right now if they know how to exercise their position in this situation. TCU could ask Comcast and the MWC to renegotiate the current tv contract if, and this is the big if, Boise, AFA and TCU remain in the conference for the duration of the new contract. All members of the MWC would have to agree to remain in the conference but with enough money on the table that should be an easy decision.
Hopefully, the administrators at TCU recognize the position they are in and the power they hold over both the Big East and the MWC. TCU really is in the position of "Kingmaker". And that's probably why the Big East is calling the meeting this weekend before the MWC and TCU could arrange a new deal with Comcast.

We really need a central thread for all this banter. I remember a few years ago this was all new and exciting but now I just want the expansions to expand already or get off the can.

Man you keep on creating new threads. Try to use the dominating thread on the same subject. We are all speculating how the realignment is going to impact SDSU.

Not when you are dealing from a position of weakness and are under contract...

The key is AQ, gaining AQ status is the trigger to open contract negotiations I believe CT or some other official stated this in the past. If TCU were to come back into the fold, BSU and AFA stay then we would have a better chance at receiving an AQ waiver for at least 2 years.
During those 2 years we could essentially poach CUSA to gain the numbers we need to ensure we stay AQ. We should know if we'll get that waiver within 6 months hopefully. If TCU stays BE, and we lose BSU and AFA then basically all hope is lost.

TCU has the power/leverage to get Comcast to renegotiate along with Boise and AFA. What is the current contract worth without those three teams? Not much......

The TV contract CANNOT be changed until 2016. Actually IIRC it expires July 1, 2015 and there's a clause which provides for renegotiation to begin as early as September 1, 2014 if the parties so desire. There is also a provision which allows the parties to agree to reopen the dollar amount by mutual agreement if the composition of the conference changes. As pathetic as it sounds, right now all of that might be a good thing. If not just Utah, BYU and TCU are no longer in the conference but AFA and Boise also leave, it won't be worth diddly squat anyway. As several of us have discussed on the MW board, if that happens, unless a QUALITY MW-CUSA deal can then be arrived at, SDSU might just be better off emulating Hawaii and reaching its own TV deal independent of the MW's TV contract.

Comcast would be a fool not to at least consider renegotiating the contract IF TCU agrees to stay in the MW. Comcast has no way of knowing if Boise or AFA are really going to leave but I'm sure Comcast would like them to stay in the MWC. That commitment could be included in a new contract. Comcast could be the big loser in all this IF all those teams leave the MW.

A new conference taking the best of C-USA and the MW would be the best situation for those selected. UNM and UNLV are both seriously weighing us down in football which is the only sport that matter.
