This is old news but I thought it was interesting. (I knew about our contract but did not know what the other conferences were pulling in). www.businessinsider.com/chart-of-the-day-tv-contracts-puts-big-12-and-big-east-in-big-hole-2011-9The Mtn TV deal is absolutely pathetic! 120 million over 10 years... puts us at 10 million/ year.... 1 million per school. Jesus Thompson you gotta do something about that! The pathetic Big East is getting 3X the TV dollars we are... hopefully not for long. That doesn't even include the BCS money.

And this is the reason why schools are jumping to different conferences at the drop of a hat. Conference alignment is jacking up CFB. And what these idiot ADs and Presidents don't realize is that if they take control of their own product's post-season, everyone could make a TON of money!
Having a big TV deal is huge, and a place where schools can make money just by their student-athletes playing football. But a lot of people think that going to a BCS bowl game is SDSU's meal ticket. I don't think it is. SDSU would lose a TON of money going to a BCS Bowl game because of all the added expenses. Even if SDSU refused to bring its cheerleaders, marching band, and bought the cheapest airline tickets available, the required ticket sales alone would murder our athletics budget.

I'm betting in 2014 we're going to a playoff system because it will become apparent (if it isn't already) that the NCAA is leaving maybe half a billion on the table every year by not having a playoff.

Wanting a big tv contract is different from being able to get a big tv contract. The market determined that this is what we are worth. Reality sucks.

Asked my business law teacher about this and the NCAA's role. He said there will be a hearing coming for them soon. Got too big (monopoly) and making too much money while benefitting a few (oligarchy).

Wanting a big tv contract is different from being able to get a big tv contract. The market determined that this is what we are worth. Reality sucks. I'd agree to a certain extent, but would qualify the statement. First, the MWC was one of, if not the, first conferences to go with its own network. The old problem of being an "early adopter" (as techies would say) or "building the first hotel" (as we said in the old days). In other words we made all the mistakes in cutting our deal that everyone else avoided. Although our concept in the beginning was cutting edge it wasn't very well put together or negotiated. A ten year time frame is, in hindsight, looking like a very bad decision. Not to mention that the MTN was never marketed in the conferences population centers, being a creature of Utah/Idaho types. So, while I'd agree we are not akin to a Pac 12, Big Ten, etc. TV contract I'd say we are worth more than our deal. Let's face it, the MWC got snookered bad in its TV deal all the way from money to marketing and development. Great idea, extremely bad execution. How do we get out? Beats me. Meanwhile the Aztecs still cannot be seen on TV in San Diego except on Cox and DirecTV. But, that's another farce/fiasco. The Fred Noonan School of Navigation.

Form a new conference , start with the 4 new teams ,plus SDSU, talk with TCU, Houston,SMU - tempting for a network to have CA, HI, Texas,Nevada, and the darling of the networks Boise -
