I am still puzzled by this AFA to the Big-12 talk. They would be lousy in everything but football and perhaps barely able to keep their heads above water in that. The rumor is AFA to the Big East (along with Navy), NOT the BIG12.

Losing AFA would be a huge blow to the MWC. SDSU, in particular, has had some great games against AFA including last year's game which was one of the best. The MWC needs to pull out all stops to keep AFA in the conference.
The BCS, OTOH, may want Boise to join the Big 12 sooner than later to avoid the embarrassment of a non-AQ school winning the BCS National Championshp.

If Boise and AFA leave, this conference is done.

Wow. If Air Force and Boise left, we'd be left with: SDSU UNLV Wyoming Fresno St. Nevada New Mexico Colorado St. Hawaii Terrible! Didn't the MWC recently increase their penalty fee for wanting to leave the conference? The exit fee never existed until recently and it's $5M. Maybe enough to keep some of us from leaving individually and going independent for football like YBU did but not enough for anybody to be dissuaded from joining the Big 12 or Big East. The eight of us could soldier on in various ways since that would still be a good basketball conference. However, unless UNM and UNLV really, really, really pick it up, it would be a terrible football conference. So bad that you can bet attendance at Qualcomm would be bad even assuming the Aztecs won the conference title most years. So if we do get stuck in that mess, SDSU would be wise to investigate going back to independent status as was the case for several years before we joined the WAC.

I don't know what the odds are that the MWC gains an AQ to the BCS next year but they have to be better than 50-50 if TCU returns to the MWC. I also doubt Boise and AFA would leave if TCU commits to coming back. So if TCU returns, the Big East would almost be forced into a merger with the Big 12 or cease to exist. So TCU really is the key. If I'm Craig Thompson, I'm doing whatever it takes to get TCU back.

If the MWC loses AFA, Boise and TCU, the Aztecs are going to have to have a killer non-conferernce schedule to retain any sort of national relevance. 3 of the 4 games are going to need to be agains BCS schools. We will also need a championship game with Conference USA.

If there's any chance at all of TCU remaining in the MW, we should know it by Monday. The Big East presidents are meeting on Sunday and I'm hoping like heck that UConn and Rutgers tell their peers they're expecting an invitation to the ACC any day and that WVU, Louisville and Cincinnati say the same about the Big 12. If that happens, there's a good chance the Big East will be dead as a football conference. But I'll bet it doesn't happen. Although UConn has flat out said they are lobbying for ACC admission, that candor is so rare that I'll bet the rest will pledge total support for the Big East and then serious discussions begin with AFA and Navy. If that happens and AFA goes to the Big East and Boise to the Big 12, SDSU will be Brando: www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QsNXd57Ppw

If we can keep TCU in the MW fold, the MW could be a big winner in the whole scheme of things. I hope Craig Thompson has done some homework on what a new tv contract with TCU and Houston and AQ status would mean for the MW. Considering the Pac-12's tv deal at $225 million per year at least a semblance of that could reasonably be expected if TCU, AFA and Boise stay. I'm guessing but $50 to $100 million per year would seem possible.

i know we've sucked for a while, but i'll never know why SDSU has been so loyal to the MWC when they have NEVER given us an respect. Its always been about Utah, BYU, or all the small market mountain schools. We should have gotten out a LONG time ago.

This is all hilarious. You drill down a little and you see that some wannabe from San Jose Mercury News is the source of Boise leaving the MWC even before they become a member. LOL.

BSU will not will a NC. Hell they got passed in the rankings this week by a team that did not play after they won their game by 20+ points! Makes absolutely no sense....but lots of dollars for the rich BCS members.

We haven't had any other good options, so we pretend to be loyal to keep the MWC as stong as possible, but if a BCS conference came calling with an actual spot for SDSU, we would take it in a heartbeat. That call has not happened.

If that happens and AFA goes to the Big East and Boise to the Big 12, SDSU will be Brando: It shocks me to see you say Boise may go to the Big 12. No market, no recruiting grounds, no academics, an additional mouth to feed. When Boise isn't undefeated and ranked in the top 10 (which they wouldn't be in the Big 12) they are a garbage addition.

Rumors on twitter are saying TCU, BYU, Louisville, Cincy and WVU are heading to the Big 12 this weekend. If that is the case the MWC is safe and The Big East is toast. twitter.com/#!/fbrumormill/status/119466318780055553

If Cincinnati, West Virginia and Louisville depart the Big East for the Big 12 the remnants would be South Florida, Rutgers, Connecticut and TCU and for football the Big East would cease to exist. BYU would be a wildcard at that point depending on what Missouri does with the SEC. TCU would have no place to go but C-USA and the MWC at that point unless the Big 12 invites them also which seems unlikely given the Longhorns objections to the Frogs.
So welcome back Horny Toads. We're going to kick your ass real soon.
