I still think we will win eight or more games this year. So I'm not giving up on this year. I would like to talk about future. Most anyone who knows anything about football will tell you that you start with the offensive line. It looks like were going to have some really good athletes there, but is it is important that they are a lot stronger than the ones we have now. I was a little startled to find out that the strongest guy on the team benched 440 pounds.
prtowess, it's probably more important that you have good hips then you bench press huge amounts of weight. However, upper and lower body strength are vitally important in offensive lineman. In the past we've had as many as 12 or 13 guys who could bench press well over 400 pounds with commensurate strength in their legs.George Jones did that with one hand and he was a rb,
I know we have a good strength coach and we need to get these young olineman big and strong in the next couple years. We are also recruiting some good-sized defensive of line guys that are 6'3 and six four who can carry some solid weight.
For some time the best teams in the conference were Utah and BYU and their strength were huge powerful lineman. We probably matched up and were even better than them at many skill positions but they still just kicked our ass.
I'd love to see our offensive line average about 6'5 and 310 pounds with each one as strong or stronger than Miles is now, our defensive line with the 300 pound nose tackle and to 6'4 270 pound defensive ends that can run.
Coach Long used to run the option quite a bit and he likes a mobile quarterback we will have three in the future. While I don't expect us to go to the option I expect our Qb's backs will be doing a lot more planned running, and maybe a little option once awhile. We know that he considers it the greatest offense ever devised.
Untill our lineman are dominant we are going to get dominated against top opponents. I know it's coming I cant wait.Maas,Flores Paul R, Kwayde, Jones, Garret and Zach pump that iron.
