Just for fun -- and to get our minds off of Michigan -- take a look at the hoops MWC schedule and make a guess. Here's mine...
Two very early MWC losses will have us all reeling. But then we quickly regain our step and finish up the conference regular season with only ONE MORE LOSS the rest of the way.
I don't know if a 3 loss record is good enough to crown us regular season champs, but it should be good enough to squeak us into an at-large berth should things not quite go our way come MWC Tourney time.
P.S. More and more as I'm going through any given day, I can't get the pep band's hoops entry music out of my head -- the one the play just before the fight song.
It's almost time!!

It's the first thing I did when I saw the schedule. I figure that the worst case scenario would be 18-12. That would mean losing to all the high-rated schools we've been warned about; Baylor, USC, LB State, Az, Creighton and Cal. That would also include losing both games against UNLV, NM and Col St. That's all very unlikely but that would be the worst. I think the best would be 24-6, with us splitting the home and aways with the three MWC teams and the big six schools we have early. Either way, we play somewhere at the end of the year and gear up for the monster season next year.

We are taking a small step back this year for huge years ahead of us starting next year!

If we pin you down and force a confession, how many MWC losses precisely???

I will be happy if we win 20 and finish third in the MWC. It is hard to replace 4 quality starters and get new players to gel, especially early in the season. I believe our only hope to make the ncaa is to win the league tournament. I hope I'm wrong and we do better, but I'm afraid we might do worse.

Are you talking about the song they play when the team comes out for warmup just before the start of the game? I think that is AZTEC ACTION! I have that song in my head all the time... band.sdsu.edu/sounds.php

The one I'm thinking of is, I believe, a cover of that song that is used in "Kill Bill Pt 1" when O-Ren shows up at the House of the Blue Leaves with the Crazy 88s. You know, THAAAAT one! ;0)

UCLA also has a "here comes the basketball team" that still sends chills. We may never get to that level, but our gym (Viejas) is a much better environment. I was lucky enough to have student tickets from when Sid Wicks was a senior, and Big Bill was on the freshman team, through Bill's senior season. They never lost at home and like most of the games last season, we never even looked at the scoreboard.
