Once again in their history, SDSU football is at a crossroads and knocking on the door of big-time success. Once again they have a chance to win a "significant game" that will elevate the program to heights possibly previously unknown. They have been at this crossroads and knocked on this door a few times in the past and have never been able to open the door and have always ended up sliding backwards down the wrong road after the loss. - There was the November 24th, 1979 game against BYU in San Diego that could have been a statement game. The 8-2 Aztecs faced the 10th ranked BYU Cougars with a chance to win the WAC title, get into the Top 25 rankings and make a statement. That one ended up 14-63 and dreams of dominating the WAC faded forever.
- There was the December 1, 1990 game against Miami in San Diego that could have been a statement game. The Aztecs were 6-4 but were playing the second ranked team in the country. A win over the number two team and a 7-4 record would have been huge but the Aztecs came up short 28-30.
- Most of all to me there was the November 8, 1975 game against Arizona in San Diego. The Aztecs were 8-0 and ranked 15th in the AP Poll when they faced the 6-1 Wildcats from the WAC that were ranked 12th in the AP Poll. A crowd of 53,611 saw the Aztecs chance to win a statement game and move into or close to the Top Ten fade with a heartbreaking 24-31 loss.
So once again the Aztecs are playing what could be a statement game against a 22nd ranked Michigan team. The Aztecs have never won a game on the road against a ranked out of conference team plus Michigan is favored by 8-10 points. I personally think the Aztecs are a better team but they are playing on the road in the Big House. As a result it will be a very difficult task but once again they are at the crossroads with only a victory needed to make a statement and walk through the door to big-time success. Win this game and they will be 4-0 and nationally ranked next week. Sooner or later they are going to open the door and win a statement game, why not do it tomorrow!!

The llist could go on and on. 03 at OSU 04 at Mich last year at Mizzou. We will take it this time at Hoke's expense.. the guy that finally turned us around will get burned. Funny how things work out.

I think one of the things Rock should do is pull a "Coach Dale" and do the football equivalent of taking a tape measure to the hoop and free throw line.
The "Big House" is just another stadium. Qualcomm is probably bigger in terms of shear size -- and there are stadiums in Europe that hold a quarter million and play 3 games at once.
Don't get caught up in the hype!

Believe me, we know the history. Just WIN this time. Sometimes it's good to look back on it so we now exactly how far we have come and how far we still have to go. And it's also good to look back and learn the history (no matter how painfull it is) because we have a lot of new fans who don't know our history.

There was an article from SI I think after the USC tie that said the game showcased one team on the rise and one team on the wane. SDSU was the team on the rise.

No one wants the Aztecs to beat Michigan more than I do . However, when they do, I am not sure that much will change. Now, if after we beat Michigan, we run the table . Then I think that there is a real possibility for great changes to come. Tomorrow first, then we conquer the WORLD!

Funny, a lot of the talking heads around here (Detroit Metro) are saying this is a "statement" game for the Wolverines. Crazy what Rich Rod did to that program.

Yes, Aztecs Fan, you are right about our past, but that does not absolutely mean it will happen again! Those teams in the past did not have a Defense, and Soitenly not a coach like Rocky, not to mention all the talent this team has! It will be a tough game tomorrow, but they have the best opportunity of any team to finally end that streak because they are mentally tough!!! I BELIEVE........

Disagree, I think for us diehards, winning the following 2 means more as it sets up us hosting Boise for the conference championship. But, 5-0 with 2 weeks of hype coming home facing TCU, likely ranked, and after 57k saw us drop 28 in 20 minutes or so? This really could be a turning point. This game would load up the bandwagon.

The 51-51 tie against BYU still gives me nightmares. That's the one that got away.

Missagain lost to Applelatchya State and then hire Dick Pole, a Chuckie Long look-a-like coach...these were two big "Crossroads"...
Do you always think the Aztecs own the "Crossroads" stick?

You could go back to the BYU, USC and Fresno St. games in the Faulk era....the UCLA games in the Santos era....the close call losses on the road to Notre Dame (fumble), Michigan, Missouri and USC in the past.
The one constant is they never pull it off.
