Texass will veto TCU, Houston and SMU so will be interesting if this scenario pans out who they will ask.

SGF, I do not have all of the details and have not done any research but since you seem to follow this a bit let me ask this... Seems to me (since football is the bread winner) the Big East is doomed as far as TV money goes. The new makeup will be So Fld, Cinn, Loui, Rut, Uconn, & TCU, plus ???. And Uconn is talking about leaving. What TV exec in his right mind would think those schools bring much to the table in terms of viewership? so why would AFA go there??? Two reasons. One, I've confirmed what somebody said on the MW board which made no sense but is apparently true that once AQ status is gained unprovisionally, as long as you keep enough members in your conference, you remain AQ. That's subject to change once the BCS enters into another contract with ESPN and its bowl partners but that's the case right now anyway. The BE has unqualified AQ status but the MW doesn't even have provisional AQ status right now. Two, the BE's TV deal figures to be reduced significantly in value but it's still there and worth a lot whereas the MW's is still there and worth almost nothing. I think AFA and TCU would be gambling that with the addition of them, Navy and UCF that the BE could retain its AQ status and a better TV deal than the MW when push comes to shove in 2014. BTW, as I said once yesterday, I almost wish this stupid MW-CUSA alliance/merger would happen. I think the result would be such a lousy conference that it would almost guarantee another airport meeting. This time, however, SDSU would be one of the participants in that meeting. Thank you for the reply. I see why schools would be interested in staying (or joining) because of AQ status but I still don't see the TV revenue staying with the existing (or new) schools. There is just not much audience pull there, certainly not much (if any) more than the MW. So the end seems to be very near for the BE (seems to me anyway).

Texass will veto TCU, Houston and SMU so will be interesting if this scenario pans out who they will ask. NO WAY Big 12 wants SMU or Houston. Of the three, TCU is the only worthy candidate from their perspective. As far as TCU coming back. NO SHOT IN HELL. They've instantly increased their TV revenue and post season takes for football and basketball by 12 folds by going to Big East.

Screw TCU, self absorbed sell-outs. Oldie Out No, we would have done the same thing if a $$$$ AQ conference had invited us. And I'd welcome them back in a heartbeat if the BE ceases to be a football conference or whatnot and they decide that there's no place like "home."

No joke, breaking news is that AFA will announce by the end of the week that they will join the BE.

No joke, breaking news is that AFA will announce by the end of the week that they will join the BE. hmmm, would be a surprise and, in my estimation a bad move... that conference for football would then be what? ... so fld, cinn, rut, uconn, tcu, lousiville, and afa??? with uconn about to bolt too... not much of a national draw there at all... i would think their tv deal is going to suffer a great deal and i do not believe any tv exec believes that conference draws any better tv audience than the mw... so i would not understand the move by afa... for them going indy would be better...

No joke, breaking news is that AFA will announce by the end of the week that they will join the BE. Mentioned a lot yesterday, service academies and Temple! They are desperate. AFA won't go, too hard on their myriad small sports and athlete's academics, which matter to them. Perhaps for football only but that kills conference membership for all the other sports. I think Navy and Army may consider an offer but AFA will pass. Adding Temple and a couple service academies will drop their competitiveness to remain an AQ conference.

I don't buy this at all. No way AFA goes to the BE.

AFA would not be able to keep their other Sports in the MW. Where would they put them? How does this support the mission of the Air Force?

I'll add that AFA has something the other service academies don't have: the potential for Big 12 membership. Why go to the Big East when you would be one of the leading candidates to be offered if, as rumor has it is now being considered, the Big 12 expands back to 12? Much more money, prestige and proximity to your school. Let's open our eyes here. If AFA passes on the Big East but then just turns around and joins the Big 12 (along with BYU and Houston, presumably), it will be further proof that Craig Thompson is merely the Little Dutch Boy with his finger in the dike.
