The Padres "AA" and the Padres "A+" are champions of their leagues.
This is a reflection of how much the Padres minor leagues have improved. The minor leagues are a very important part of the Padres competing long term.
Of all the leagues the most important for near term results in the majors, "AA" and "A+" are the most important. "AAA" has way too many "AAAA" type players on all team to accurately reflect their future influence on the major league teams.
In addition the Padres Short Season affiliate had the best regular season record in their league. And the Padres "A" affiliate made the playoffs with a second half surge.
The Padres Minor league system is in very good health.

Rizzo is going to be a very good player. If he shortens up his swing.

I think we've finally found something upon which we agree (although I doubt you'd have written it if Tucson hadn't finished last in their league). Wrong. If they had finished second to last, I would have written the same thing

The Padres Minor league system is in very good health. You've been saying this for a couple years now. If you're correct today, we'll find out in two years. Almost NONE of these young guys are gonna be any good. Darnell, Rizzo, Forsythe...woof woof. And even if these guys turn out to be any good, Moron-ad and the rest of the idiots in charge will just trade 'em away anyway.

And even if these guys turn out to be any good, Moron-ad and the rest of the idiots in charge will just trade 'em away anyway. MLB teams have "control" over players for 6 MLB years. So if one of these players became a MLB player next year he wouldn't be a free agent until 2018 (that's 2 more years than Aztecs basketball players play) and therefore wouldn't be traded until around 2017. That is a lot of years of service for the team. After they are traded (assuming they are good) they will bring more young players that can again restock the minors and MLB team with very good players. That is what Tampa Bay is doing versus Boston who is buying a pennant. Tampa Bay is doing pretty well.
