This is by no means a scientific observation, but it is what I have seen going on as so many of my good friends pass on.
Rule #1. If you have been really skinny all of your life, more than likely you are going to go out with a stroke in your sixties or seventies. If the stroke does not get you, Prostrate Cancer if undetected probably will. All of the Brain Cancers have been in skinny people, too. Fifty percent of the really skinny people start down the road to Alzheimers in their mid Sixties. From all of this I have determined that really skinny people have the worst final years of their lives.
Rule #2. If you have been really heavy all of your life, more than likely you are going to die of a heart attack in your sixties or seventies. Usually a damn good way to check out if you do not get too dramatic and start screaming about the chest or arm pain. That is not dignified, so try to not scream on your way out. You want all of your relatives to think that your passing was not that bad, and it is comforting to them. If the Big H does not kill you, Colon Cancer or Abdominal Cancer will. That is a painful way to die, so if you do not have any religious prohibitions against assisted death look into moving to an AD state.
Rule #3. If you are slightly overweight, you keep on trucking, provided you do not have an accident. All of the guys whom I have known are still alive, even into their late seventies. Two have cancer, but modern medicine seems to be helping them. I mention accidents because this group seems to be the worst for drunken driving fatalities. I guess moderately overweight guys like to drink more than average and are involved in more drunken driving accidents, but they also accidentally step or fall off of their roofs while trying to make repairs. If you are going to reroof your house, drink and drive, or do anything else that is risky, make certain that you have up to date accidental death insurance.
Rule #4. Regardless of body type, if you smoke, you guarantee yourself a boatload of health problems further on in life. Quit Now. Besides, it is a foolish waste of money that could be put to better use.
