Am I not correct in saying that Padre attendance is at or slightly above that of last year at this time? What gives? I would have thought that Padre attendance would be 10-15% lower this year considering how badly the team is doing. I can't figure it out.

The reason for that is if the Padres made the playoffs that season, you were given the opportunity to have playoff ticket priority--if you put a deposit down on season tickets for the following season. I'm not sure what the deal was this season though. I think many fans bought the Padres' threat of "you will lose your current season seats if you don't sign up right away" crap. They are doing the same thing this season--we are calling their bluff, and if they take our seats (we would have until Jan. 6, 2012 to pay in full anyway), we will just head up the 15 and go watch the Storm in Lake Elsinore.
