AGO has always been a huge supporter of Aztec Basketball with some of the Show's core members also being active in AGO.
And I'm not just talking about in recent years. I'm talking about the Bland/Mackell days when the student section was roughly 30 students for average conference home games. They were and still are die hard Aztec fans.
I've never known them to discriminate against anyone based off religious beliefs. I don't think it's unfair to restrict membership into a fraternity based off religious beliefs the same way I don't think it's unfair to restrict membership into an academic fraternity based off educational background.
At the same time I don't understand why a student would want to join a Christian based fraternity if they don't share their beliefs... so why make a big habbub about it and try to make it "official"?

Nice way to be impartial regarding your presentation of the article...
The lawsuit stemmed from SDSU recognizing Hispanic and Black Fraternaties who exclude whites, The Young Republicans who exclude registered Democrats, Sororities who exclude men, etc - but not recognizing Christian Fraternities for excuding those of a different faith.
SDSU decided not to recognize them and in doing so brought their decision making process into question, just as the last line of the article implies. It will be interesting to see how the district court distinguishes between organizations that exclude based on race and gender, compared to one that excludes based on religous belief.

www.aepi.org/?page=GoverningLawsAEP does not require you to be "Jewish" but that you believe in God. I would guess the non Jews in the Frat have are as close to o as humanly possible. I am sure they screen appropiately. I guess believing in God is segmented out as not being religous. But If I were the Frats and Sorority, I would copy these by laws and then re submit. JMO.

Taliban huh? Interesting - almost as interesting as the 'Forcier to SJSU' post that referenced their new HC as being a 'born again nut'. Wow, I didn't realize that being a Christian was worthy of such derision on this board. Gee, I guess I need to rethink our family's commitment to reaching out to homeless, transient, and other at risk youth in San Diego - you know, the one's who are sold into prostitution by their parent for a drug fix or the object of every male relative's primal sexual desires. The kids who are preyed upon by perverts who know that most kids on the streets will do just about anything to have a roof over their head for a night or a warm meal. Imagine that, we're just a bunch of nuts using our time and resources to try and make a difference in some young kids's lives and give them a measure of hope and a chance for a future. What a shame. Kman out

Everybody should be excluded from everything. That would be fair and cause much less trouble.

Everybody should be excluded from everything. That would be fair and cause much less trouble. Everyone except for you. You are not allowed to be excluded.

as a former member, you don't even need to be christian to join, just to be on executive council. And we fully respect the school's decision not to officially recognize us.
So please, tell me how we resemble the taliban? Does a church fall under this heading because it does not allow atheists to become priests? Should a vegetarian club have a carnivore as president?

and tec, thank you for verifying our high level of pride in all things aztec. As a 12 person house when I joined in '06, 10 were regular, vocal attendees of basketball and football

Comparing a Christian fraternity to the Taliban. Wow. Seriously unbelievable. But to be expected. How about this quote form the article: "Yet the jurists expressed concern that the university may have enforced the policy unevenly, by possibly granting official status to groups that made similar restrictions on membership." You think?

Can we please move this thread to politics / religion. Would be a better fit elsewhere.
