Definately worth the money. I like him a lot, but don't know if I could say I am 100% sure he is worth that money.

I like Weddle.....but I wouldn't say that he's worth that kind of money.

A.J. blunders again.
No, not in re-signing Weddle (Weddle is a great safety against the run and decent against the pass), but in OVERPAYING for him when he could have signed him before the offseason for 2 or 3 million less per year.
A.J. is ruining this team. Look at who he let go. This team is worse than it was last year. If not for Rivers this team would be 4-12.

Didn't Eric Berry get a 6 year 60 mil deal with 30+ guaranteed? So how does this deal make Weddle the highest paid safety? Unless they're ignoring rookie deals.

Only 19 million of the 40 is guaranteed...the 40 is irrelevant as over half of it is not in guaranteed money. The team is worse than last year? Um, no. If anything, we are better defensively. Sproles? Lol...give me a break. He had a very weak year last year and is nothing more than a third down back and a decent special teams guy. Very replaceable. Let's get a grip on reality.

Sproles is not worth what the Saints paid him. We did not WANT him back at that price tag. The salary cap is expected to hit 200 million by 2015 or 2016. With rookie contracts being scaled back a TON, this means more money to more established, veteran players and more wiggle room/roster flexibility because of the increase in the cap.

Spanos showing how being cheap costs them money

More like being cautious cost them money.
Also Weddle's deal will be the baseline for any decent/good safety from now on. In a few years he'll maybe be top 10-15 highest paid safety.

Definately worth the money. I hope you're being sarcastic and forgot your smiley because he's far from worth the highest paid Safety in the NFL.

Weddle is a very good safety, him with Jammer, Cason and Sanders will be a dominant force. To say he isn't worth it is plain stupidity IMO. The coaching staff loves this guy. He rounds out one of the best secondaries in the NFL.
And he doesn't endanger the lives of San Diego County Motorists by driving while plastered.

I guess your rose colored glasses are a much different color than mine. So, you're saying that he's the BEST safety in football? Only the BEST should be paid the HIGHEST. Weddle will benefit from Sanders if he stays healthy. Sanders won the defensive MVP one year. I doubt Weddle will ever get considered for that honor. Your comment about dominant force is another I could tackle but not enough time right now.

He has a nose for the ball, makes plays and stays relatively healthy. Of course everyone has an opinion, it could be argued that not signing him would have weakened the defense. Who could they bring in if not Weddle? It is better to have him in there, this team is beginning to age, a little continuity will at least get the Chargers to the playoffs.

He's a heady ball player but nowhere near the best safety in football. For one, he doesn't scare anybody from going over the middle. He's in the situation that Sproles was in 2 years ago..... getting far more than he's worth but the staff doesn't want to lose him....yet... 2 years from now, he's in a different uniform.

The dude dominated SDSU when he was at Utah though. He was a man among boys.

The dude dominated SDSU when he was at Utah though. He was a man among boys. Sure he did but there's virtually no correlation between playing safety at Utah and safety in the NFL. Is he as good as Rodney Harrison was? Or Polomalu? Or Bob Sanders when he's healthy? The fact is the Chargers haven't had a hard hitting safety since Rodney. That's been a hole in our D for years. Weddle is a smart player who isn't bad. He's just not the best.... but he's pulling down some serious coin.
