The History Channel is whoring itself.
It is about time we turn them over to the various state militias to get them to straighten up their act.

Maybe they're whoring themselves out but I actually watch some of those shows. They're more interesting than a lot of the crap on the major networks. Maybe philosphically I shouldn't watch it, but I do anyway. Ice Road Truckers, Pawn Stars....yea!
What I don't like is HGTV whoring themselves out. They are now 100% Home and 0% garden. There isn't one show left having to do with gardening, plants, etc.

It makes no sense whatsoever to have those shows on the History Channel. But, somewhere else on the cable is fine by me. They just show another side of life within the US that most of us have never been acquainted with.

Whether or not it makes sense they certainly make money and a fair amount of history is discussed on some of the shows. But there's only so many documentaries made and for a while it looked like the History Channel was going to become the WW II channel. =Bob

My wife and I just this evening watched one of their shows, this time about some guys trying to prove that there are alien space craft being studied at Area 51. This hour was filed with completely unsubstantiated speculation and nonsense. It wasn't even very well done for its kind, and its kind is not worth watching. Come on! This channel used to have really great stuff on, well, HISTORY! And by that I mean shows that actually offered the viewer some real eduacational meat. Too often these days they are serving up watered down potato soup. AzWm

If the History Channel is to keep its name, it needs to stay true to what they were trying to do in the first place. There are a hundred thousand or more fantastic BBC documentaries on history that they could show. Have you seen any lately?

But then again the right-wing nuts you tend to support reject science in favor of religion. I understand that libertarians don't do that, but you've sold your soul to the right by supporting this bull$#!+ no tax increases philosophy. I can't stand shows like Ice Road Truckers and the swamp people and the Most Dangerous Occupation or whatever it is but talk to Stu and others about that. The shows are crap but people love watching them. =Bob

It comes down to RATING$. These specialized stations have morphed over the years to what they are now. The History channel has Ice Road Truckers, Pawn Stars, those Pickers, etc. Home and Garden channel has abandoned the "Garden" part and has endless real estate shows like Property Virgins and House Hunters. Even the SciFi...er, now SyFy Channel has wrestling. A&E has a show following buyers at abandoned storage garage units. They figure these shows get better ratings...probably because I stop at them when channel surfing.

Syfy also has a show about an auction house in Hollywood that I like. Lots of really cool movie stuff. The reason I'd argue that shows like Pawn Stars and American Pickers belong on the History Channel is you can learn quite a bit about history through the antiques they find. =Bob
