Fuel Cell replacements for "normal" batteries are finally available. It was only a matter of time. We will look back and marvel at how often we had to recharge our mobile devices. The power source below will last as long as 1000 disposable AA alkaline batteries. Not bad for $100. With more wide spread use the price will drop and refilling will become the norm.

This is the best writeup. One big advantage is no discharge during non-use. You can have the power there ready for use for years and when it is finally needed it is there at the levels of when the device was last touched. Smoke detectors would be a good example of this type of need.

Don't know if it's true, but he claimed that American patents had too long a period, allowing companies to buy a product that competed against theirs and then just sit on it for the 27 years, or however long American patents last, in order to kill competition. Also claimed that Australian patents were only good for 7 years. Again, I don't know if any of that was true, but if so, it's interesting. =Bob
