One really has to wonder what was in Barack Obama's mind when he said, again and again, "If you are happy with your current health plan you can keep it." Did he really believe that? Had he simply not thought through what was being cooked up by Democrats in the Congress? Did he know all along that his promise was nonsense and would be broken almost immediately? I, personally, take a lot of heat on this and other boards for criticizing the President, especially with respect to the health insurance act. However, I am still waiting for someone to explain why I should not feel both betrayed and extremely angry in this regard. The fact is that ObamaCare represents a 21st Century replay of Britain's 1948 National Health Service. The federal government will have enormous power over the health system in this country under ObamaCare. That means, in essence, that political considerations will be more important than medical ones. There is simply no way around this other fact: When the "exchanges" are in operation, we will be able to buy only four levels of health insurance. Want to mix and match coverage and provisions? Too bad. That will not be allowed. So it's not quite one size fits all, but four sizes fit all is not much better. I'd better shut up since I am about to violate some of my own rules for this board. To finish, let me pose this question; Just how much power over the American health care system do YOU want the government to have? Back to "you can keep your plan." Will Congress have the will and wisdom to "repeal and replace"? The system needs incremental overhaul on a piece by piece basis.

Will Congress have the will and wisdom to "repeal and replace"? The system needs incremental overhaul on a piece by piece basis. I am skeptical. The firestorm that will hit anyone who seriously tries to repeal or even modify ObamaCare will be vicious. And the Democrats are nothing is not wily. They have front-loaded some goodies that many less discriminating Americans will interpret as evidence that the new law is terrific. (Translation. "Terrific" in this case means "Desirable benefits I will get at the expense of others." Sorry, that's cynical but true.) Only later, and even then only if Americans are really paying attention, will the hidden land mines start to go off. By then the turkey could be so embedded in the culture that repeal or extreme modification may be virtually impossible. If you don't think so, just reflect on how much mileage the Left has gotten for the past 60 years by attacking anyone brave enough to point out that Social Security was fatally flawed from the moment FDR signed it into law.
